LA COMPAÑÍA HA MODIFICADO SUS PREVISIONES PARA 2009, COMO CONSECUENCIA DEL DETERIORO RÁPIDOY SIGNIFICATIVO DE LA DEMANDA, Y HA DECIDIDO ADOPTAR MEDIDAS EXTRAORDINARIAS ENCAMINADAS

A SORTEAR LA CRISIS

AS A RESULT OF THE RAPID DETERIORATION IN THE DEMAND FOR FLIGHTS, AIR NOSTRUM HAS HADTO MODIFY ITS FORECASTS FOR 2009 AND ADOPT A SERIES OF IMPORTANT MEASURES FOR COPING

WITH THE CRISIS

he last time the aviation sector stood on the brink of disaster wasfollowing the 11-S terrorist attack. During this period, 11 airlines were

forced out of business. Today, however, the aviation sector is facing itsbiggest challenge in over 60 years with some 40 airlines having alreadybeen closed down.The President of the International Air Transport Association (IATA),Mr. Giovanni Bisignani, has recently made public the figures thatdemonstrate the seriousness of the situation. Forecasts indicate that theairline industry will be facing losses of up to 3,500 million euros by theend of the year due to the affects of the present world economic crisis.The drastic fall in passenger demand is creating an increasingly difficultsituation, obliging the modification of present and future forecasts.The regional aviation sector is losing a large number of its businessclients, greatly reducing passenger income. This crisis, as I am sure youare aware, is a global crisis, a crisis that is forcing airlines to adapt,whether they like it or not, to a new state of affairs. Some months ago,AIR NOSTRUM, decided to take the lead by restructuring its companypolicy. You may have already heard about this through the mediafollowing our decision to immediately make it public.As a result of the rapid deterioration in the demand for flights,AIR NOSTRUM has had to modify its forecasts for 2009 and adopt aseries of important measures. A crisis action plan was created offering

measures that included a reduction in workers, a wage freeze and ageneral costs cutback. Please be assured, however, that these measureshave, in no way, affected our aircraft maintenance and safety programme.Safety has always been our main priority and continues to remain at thetop of the list.Other important measures we have had to take have been the temporarysuspension of a number of flight routes, a reduction in flight frequenciesand an 18% cutback in aircraft flights. These cuts in production,designed to deal with the reduction in market demand, have alsoincluded the withdrawal of 10 of our aircraft. The aim of these drasticmeasures - some of which have been very difficult to put into action,especially those affecting staff - is to help the Company adapt tothe current market situation as quickly and efficiently as possible.AIR NOSTRUM has, since it began operating 15 years ago, workedhard to maintain its market segment and shall, in spite of thecircumstances, continue to do so. If the world changes, we willchange. I assure you that we will do everything in our power tomaintain our position as regional aviation leaders, weathering,with our passengers’ collaboration, this global economiccrisis as best we can. In the meantime, I would like tothank you all for your kind support.

a última crisis que llevó al sector aéreo a la zozobra se produjotras los atentados del 11-S. En aquella ocasión sólo fueron 11

aerolíneas las que abandonaron su negocio, hoy se vive la peorsituación de los últimos 60 años y son 40 las aerolíneas que sehan visto obligadas a cerrar sus mostradores.El presidente de la Asociación Internacional del Transporte Aéreo(IATA), Giovanni Bisignani, acaba de mostrar las cifras que ilustranla crudeza de la situación. Las previsiones indican que las aero-líneas cerrarán el año con unas pérdidas por valor de 3.500millones de euros debido a los efectos de la crisis mundial. Ladrástica caída de la demanda está generando que la evolución dela situación empeore a cada momento, al tiempo que obliga aorillar las previsiones realizadas para construir unas nuevas.El sector aéreo se está viendo afectado por el descenso del númerode clientes de negocios y por la fuerte caída en los ingresosmedios por pasajero. La crisis es global y compartida por todaslas compañías aéreas que, de un modo u otro, han comenzadoa adaptarse al nuevo marco. AIR NOSTRUM, siempre en primeralínea, decidió situarse a la cabeza para conquistar el futuro y hacemeses reelaboró toda su estrategia. Quizá hayan podido leer sobreello en algún medio de comunicación porque lo hicimos público deinmediato.La compañía ha modificado sus previsiones para 2009, como conse-cuencia del deterioro rápido y significativo de la demanda, y ha decididoadoptar medidas extraordinarias encaminadas a sortear la crisis. El plande acción contiene tanto medidas de redimensionamiento de la compañía,como de congelación salarial y de reducción de costes discrecionales.Sobre este último punto sí me gustaría hacer hincapié en el hecho de queeste recorte en ningún momento afectará al exhaustivo programa demantenimiento y seguridad al que sometemos a los aviones de nuestraflota. La seguridad es lo primero y permanece por encima de todo.La medida más relevante será el abandono temporal de las rutas norentables –o aquellas frecuencias de comportamiento más débil– yla reducción de un 18% en el número de vuelos. Este recorte de laproducción, para ajustarla a la demanda real, implicará una disminuciónde la flota de AIR NOSTRUM en 10 aviones y una reducción de la actualplantilla vinculada a dichas aeronaves. El objetivo de todas estas medidas–algunas de ellas muy difíciles de tomar, y me refiero a las que afectan alas personas– es adaptarnos rápidamente al nuevo entorno y salir forta-lecidos de la crisis. AIR NOSTRUM ha peleado desde su nacimiento,15 años atrás, y lo seguirá haciendo. Si el mundo ha cambiado, nosotroscambiaremos con él y seguiremos marchando en vanguardia. No loduden. Queremos conquistar este nuevo escenario junto a ustedes, aquienes, una vez más, les doy las gracias por escogernos.

A 15 kilómetros de Santander, la capital de Cantabria, se asienta el Parque de laNaturaleza de Cabárceno, un gran hogar para más de mil doscientos animales perte-necientes a más de 120 especies de los cinco continentes. Posee un espectacularpaisaje kárstico donde conviven en estado de semilibertad elefantes, hipopótamos,tigres, cebras, jirafas, osos… a los que se puede observar siguiendo las sendas ylos 20 kilómetros de carreteras a través de maravillosos desfiladeros, apacibles lagosy sugerentes figuras rocosas.

The Cabarceno Nature Park, home of 1,200 animals made up of 120 animalspecies from all over the world, lies just 15 kilometres from Santander, thecapital of the Spanish autonomous region of Cantabria. This magnificentnature park with its spectacular karst landscape houses all kinds of animals(elephants, hippopotamuses, tigers, zebras, giraffes, bears etc.). The animalscan be viewed from special paths and a 20 kilometre network of roads wherevisitors will also find spectacular ravines, placid lakes and a number ofinteresting rock figures.

riginariamente, en las 750 hectáreas que ocupa, hubo una mina de hierro a cieloabierto, cuya red de caminos, túneles y vías se han acondicionado para el senderismo

y paso de vehículos. En este espectacular paisaje se han habilitado los espacios másidóneos para que los animales puedan vivir del modo más aproximado a su hábitat deorigen. Sólo el recinto dedicado a elefantes tiene las mismas dimensiones que el zoode Madrid.

En Cabárceno podemos encontrar osos, lobos, leones, jirafas, gorilas, bisontes, hienas,tigres, hipopótamos, ñus, avestruces, camellos, reptiles de distintas especies… o unafamilia de elefantes africanos compuesta por doce miembros, muchos de ellos nacidos enel propio parque. De hecho, se trata del parque donde más elefantes africanos han nacidoen cautividad, un total de 13. El último, Cristina –una pequeña elefantita que ya pesa600 kilos y que cumple este mes de junio tres años–, ha tenido que ser criada a biberónpor los cuidadores del parque después de ser rechazada por su madre.

Este paraíso faunístico, está concebido, además, con fines educativos, culturales, cientí-ficos y recreativos, habiéndose convertido en uno de los mayores atractivos turísticos delnorte de España.

Las demostraciones en el recinto de las focas y leones marinos o el vuelo de avesrapaces que se realizan diariamente, contribuyen a disfrutar de las actividades que realizanlos animales a diario. Además, es un lugar ideal para pasar el día en familia ya que disponede numerosas zonas de recreo, merenderos, miradores, rutas botánicas, cafeterías, restau-rantes, parque infantil...

O he 750 hectares that make up the surface area of the Cabarceno Nature Park wasoriginally home of an open-air iron mine. Its network of tunnels, paths and tracks

has been equipped for hiking and vehicle use. The Cabarceno Nature Park offers alarge number of open spaces modelled on the natural habitat of the different animalspecies. The elephant area alone covers a surface area as large as the zoo of Madrid.

It houses bears, wolves, lions, giraffes, gorillas, bison, hyenas, tigers, hippopotamuses,wildebeests, ostriches and camels as well as a wide variety of reptiles and an entirefamily, made up of twelve members, of African elephants, many of which were bornin the park. In fact, the Carbaceno Nature Park holds the record for the largestnumber of African elephants born in captivity. A total of 13 elephants have beenborn here so far, the youngest being Cristina, a baby elephant that already weighs600 kilos and will be celebrating her third birthday this month. Cristina was bottlefed by her keepers after being rejected by her mother.

This marvellous animal paradise was created for educational, cultural, scientificand recreational purposes and is, today, one of northern Spain’s most populartourist attractions.

The daily sea lion and seal shows and bird of prey demonstrations form part ofthe Carbaceno Nature Park’s numerous activities. It is, without a doubt, a splendidplace to spend a day out with the family offering a number of delightful picnic areas,spectacular viewpoints, interesting botanical nature trails, cafeterias and restaurantsand children’s playgrounds.

RUTAS BOTÁNICASDentro del parque existen varias rutas que nos llevan por lugares fascinantes. Entre las

más de 100 especies arbóreas, se han elegido 24 para conocer algunos de los árboles másrepresentativos de Cabárceno.

La senda de los tejos, alcornoques y nogales (alrededor de los tigres) es una de lasrutas ajardinadas más bellas y mejor cuidadas y en su recorrido se pueden ver ademásbambúes, abedules, robles, castaños de indias, higueras, plátanos, madroños, cedros delatlas, ginko, agracejo, celindas…

También se puede hacer la ruta de los abedules, tilos y hayas (alrededor de hienas ylobos), la de los laureles, saúcos, tilos y hayas o la ruta de los castaños y pinos (alrededorde los recintos de leones y bisontes).

EL RECINTO DE GORILAS MÁS GRANDE DE ESPAÑAUnos de los habitantes más populares de Cabárceno son una pareja de gorilas, a los

que se les ha acondicionado el recinto más grande que existe en España dedicado a estaespecie y uno de los mejores de Europa.

Nicky y Nadia cuentan con un espacio exclusivo de 14.500 metros cuadrados y viven enun ‘hogar’ diseñado por el arquitecto cántabro Eduardo Fernández Abascal de más de 800metros cuadrados y con amplias cristaleras que facilitan observar a los animales en suvida cotidiana, mientras que el exterior tiene zonas rocosas y árboles que permiten a losgorilas sentirse en un hábitat cómodo y familiar.

BOTANICAL NATURE TRAILSAs mentioned previously, the Cabarceno Nature Park houses a variety of

interesting botanical nature trails. A total of 24 of the most representative treespecies have been highlighted here from amongst the 100 different types of treespecies.

The Yew, Cork and Walnut Tree Nature Trail (around the tiger enclosure) is, withouta doubt, one of the Cabarceno Nature Park’s most beautiful areas housing large areasof bamboo together with numerous birch, oak, chestnut, fig, banana, strawberry,cypress, ginkgo, barberry and lilac trees.

Also worth mentioning are the Birch, Lime and Beech Tree Nature Trail (aroundthe hyena and wolf enclosure) and the Laurel, Elder, Lime and Beech Tree andChestnut and Pine Tree nature trails (around the lion and bison enclosures).

THE LARGEST GORILLA ENCLOSURE IN SPAINIts gorillas are two of the Cabarceno Nature Park’s most popular inhabitants being

located in what is not only considered one of the largest gorilla enclosures in Spain,but also one of the finest in Europe.

Nicky and Nadia live in an area of 14,500 square meters in a ‘home’, designed bythe Cantabrian architect, Eduardo Fernandez Abascal, that covers a surface area of800 meters, Here visitors will find a number of large sheet glass areas where theywill be able to watch the gorillas going about their normal daily business. exterior part of the enclosure includes a number of tree and rock areasdesigned to make the gorillas feel more at home.

A visit to this area would not be complete, however, without a tour of theexhibition area where visitors will find useful information on the customsand way of life of this animal as well as a model of the cabin used by theNorth American zoologist, Diane Fossey, during her famous gorilla studies.

We would also mention the Cabarceno Nature Park Environmental EducationCentre with its programme of educational activities divided into different studygroups, ranging from 3 to 18 years.

INVESTIGATION PROGRAMMESThe scientific facet of the Carbarceno Nature Park has turned it into an

international reference point as far as the conservation of species in dangerof extinction is concerned. As a matter of fact, it is considered a pioneer inreproduction programmes for animal species in captivity.

The Carbarceno Nature Park also takes part in an important numberof studies in collaboration with other nature parks and zoos, along withuniversities, associations and investigation centres, from all over the world.

Amongst its most outstanding investigations, we would mention its studyon the African elephant (female elephant sexual response cycle and maleelephant behaviour patterns). We would also mention its control studies onlioness and tigress heat periods and assisted reproduction in Cantabrianbears.

La visita al nuevo recinto se completa con un gran espacio expositivo y didácticoque acerca al visitante al conocimiento de las costumbres y formas de vida de estaespecie, así como con una reproducción de la cabaña en la que trabajaba la zoóloganorteamericana Dian Fossey.

El Aula de Educación Medioambiental desarrolla, por su parte, un completoprograma de actividades didácticas, con contenidos diferenciados para distintosniveles de escolares de edades comprendidas entre los 3 y 18 años.

PROGRAMAS DE INVESTIGACIÓNLa faceta científica desarrollada en Cabárceno ha convertido al parque cántabro

en una referencia internacional en cuanto a la conservación de especies en peligrode extinción, siendo pionero en programas de reproducción de especies animalesen cautividad.

La instalación participa en un importante número de estudios y análisis que llevaa cabo en colaboración con otros parques y zoológicos, así como con universi-dades, asociaciones y centros de investigación de todo el mundo.

Entre los proyectos más destacados se encuentran los centrados en el elefanteafricano (estudios del ciclo sexual de la hembra del elefante africano y sobre elcomportamiento en los elefantes macho). Otros programas destacados son losdedicados al control del celo en hembras de león y tigre y el centrado en la repro-ducción asistida en el oso del Cantábrico.

hen did you first become interestedin cycling?

The truth is that I have been involved, oneway or another, in the world of cyclingsince I was very small. I was 6-years-oldwhen my padre created the Angel ArroyoCycling Club and 8-years-old when Ibegan competing. I slowly improved myperformance, gaining more and moreconfidence. I continued progressing, whilststill studying, until I finally decided thatI was ready to become a professionalcyclist.Do you consider the mountain stages animportant part of winning a Grand Tour?The mountain stages, together with timetrials, are an intrinsic part of winning anyimportant competition. As a mountainclimber, I am able to use the mountainstages to make up for my performance inthe time trials where I am at a disadvantagecompared to other competitors.Which is the most difficult mountainpass you have climbed?I would say any of the Italian mountainpasses because of their irregularity. If,however, I had to choose one, I wouldsay the La Fauniera Mountain Pass inGiro d’Italia. On the other hand, themountain stages of the Tour de Franceare also difficult for their length, thespeeds, the extreme weather conditionsand the quality of the cyclists.Time trials have never been one of yourstrongest points. How do you feel aboutthese at present?I feel about the same, but with moreexperience. I’m not, because of my physicalcharacteristics, a strong competitor asfar as time trials are concerned. I have,however, over the years learnt to improvemy performance enough to not spoil mychances of winning.How would you describe a typical dayof training?Well, when I am at home, I like to takemy kids to school first, followed by ahearty breakfast. I need energy for allthose hours of training. Depending onwhat I am doing, I usually train betweenthree and six hours a day, taking the oddday off to rest and assimilate the resultsof the different training sessions. Which of your victories stands out mostin your mind?Every victory has its own particular flavourand a special place in my memory. If I hadto choose one, I would say the 2008 Tourof France final in Paris which I was able toshare with my children.Which cycling champion do you mostadmire?I would say Pedro Delgado and my brother-in-law, Jose Maria Jimenez “El Chava”. Ialways found their cycling and raceperformances very exciting.Do you think that Jose Maria Jimenez“El Chava” was one of the best climbersin the history of Spanish cycling?Yes, I think he was not only one of thebest mountain climbers, but also unique.

Wómo nació tu interés por elciclismo?

La verdad es que lo viví desde pequeño ysiempre me gustó. Tenía seis años cuandomi padre creó la Peña Ciclista Ángel Arroyoy con ocho comencé a competir. Poco apoco se me fue dando mejor, fui ilusionán-dome y al ver que progresaba año tras añofui encaminando mi vida en esta dirección,sin olvidarme nunca de los estudios, hastaque llegó el momento de tomar una deci-sión.¿Crees que la montaña es una moda-lidad básica para ganar una grande?La montaña, como la contrarreloj, sonmodalidades que debes superar para poderoptar a ganar una carrera grande. En micaso, como escalador, es en la montañadonde puedo sacar más diferencias y deesta manera partir con ventaja en las cro-nos, donde otros corredores son más fuer-tes que yo.¿Qué puerto consideras más duro delos que has subido?Como puertos duros por su desnivel, cual-quiera de los puertos italianos, pero sobretodo La Fauniera, en Italia. Por lo largosque son, la velocidad que se suben, la tem-peratura que hay que soportar y la calidadde corredores, cualquiera del Tour.La contrarreloj no es tu terreno máscómodo, ¿cómo te ves ahora?Como siempre, pero con más experiencia.Por mis características no soy un corredorpotente para la crono, pero con los años heaprendido a desenvolverme lo suficiente-mente bien como para no perder mis opcio-nes en las vueltas que disputo.¿Cuál es tu rutina de entrenamientodiaria?En casa trato de hacer una vida familiar ycada mañana antes de entrenar llevo a mishijos al colegio. Después tengo un buendesayuno para poder afrontar esas horasde entrenamiento con energía suficiente.Dependiendo del objetivo inmediato quetenga, el entrenamiento oscila entre tres yseis horas diarias, divididas en grupos,intercalando días de descanso para recupe-rar y asimilar el entrenamiento. Tras entrenar,el resto del tiempo lo paso con mi familia.¿Qué victoria te ha hecho más ilu-sión?Cada victoria es distinta y cada momentoes diferente. Todas tienen algo muy espe-cial y todas me han hecho gran ilusión.Pero si he de elegir una, me quedo con elpodio del Tour de Francia, en París, al podercompartirlo con mis dos hijos.¿Cuál ha sido “tu espejo” en elmundo del ciclismo?Me quedo con Pedro Delgado y con micuñado José María Jiménez, “el Chava”.La forma de correr y de actuar en carrera deambos siempre fue emocionante.¿Crees que José Mª “El Chava” Jimé-nez fue uno de los mejores escalado-res españoles de la historia? Creo que fue uno de los mejores escalado-res y también único. Era un escalador concuerpo de rodador, un corredor espectacular.

La victoria en elTour de Francia del año 2008 es un triunfo que le llena de orgullo,máxime cuando lo celebró con sus hijos en el podium de la capitalgala. Este año 2009 su fichaje por un nuevo equipo le llena deilusión y así intentará llegar a las dos grandes competicionesinternacionales con la máxima preparación.

This veteran cycling champion from Leganes has been competing asa professional cyclist for over twelve years now. Winner of the 2008Tour de France, Carlos Sastre was able to celebrate his victory on thepodium in Paris with his children. He has recently signed up witha new cycling team increasing even more his enthusiasm andeagerness to qualify for the Giro d’Italia and Tour de France, two ofprofessional cycling’s most important international competitions.


Do you think that we shall continueto hear about cases of doping inprofessional cycling?If there are cyclists that continue thinkingthat they can take short-cuts with this kindof behaviour, then we shall have morecases. I think that dope controls are apositive thing for cyclists, similar tospeeding and alcohol controls. They arenecessary because there are people thatdrink and drive and speed. Will this type ofperson cease to exist one day? No matterwhat we do, this kind of thing will alwayshappen. I am not aware of anything that isperfect in our society. We as people arewhat we are, we make our own decisionsalthough we may later regret it when werealise that we made the wrong decision. What advice do you have for youngcyclists?I think that youngsters today have all theadvice they need and that it is time tolisten to their opinion. They are tryingto work out what it is that they want andhow they want it, fighting hard for it.Things do not fall out of the sky.As a frequent flyer with AIR NOSTRUM,what do you like best about our airline?As far as I am concerned, I would saythe friendliness of the flight staff. Withsmaller aircraft, the staff seems to bemore approachable, more amicable.

¿Crees que seguirán saliendo casosde dopaje en el ciclismo profesional? Si hay corredores que siguen pensando enacortar sus caminos por esta vía, habrámás casos. Yo creo que los controles sonpositivos para todos. Es igual que los con-troles de velocidad y de alcoholemia: sesiguen haciendo porque hay gente que vadeprisa y gente que bebe. ¿Se acabaránalgún día? Por mucho que nos empeñe-mos, este tipo de casos los habrá siempre.No conozco nada perfecto en nuestra socie-dad y las personas somos como somosy tomamos nuestras propias decisiones,aunque luego nos arrepintamos por nohaber tomado la correcta. ¿Qué consejo le darías a los quepractican el ciclismo de maneraamateur?Creo que en este momento los chavalestienen exceso de consejos y necesitan másque les escuchen que otra cosa. Ellosdeben intentar saber qué es lo que quiereny cómo lo quieren, y luchar por ello. Lascosas no caen del cielo.Vuelas frecuentemente con AIR NOS-TRUM, ¿qué aspectos destacarías dela compañía? En mi caso sobre todo me quedo con lacercanía de la tripulación. Al ser avionesmás pequeños, el trato es más cercano ymás amable.

¿Qué recuerdas de él? Muchas cosas y en estos momentos todaslas buenas. Todos esos entrenamientos pornuestra sierra, en la que teníamos nuestrospiques; esas largas horas de entrenamien-tos en las que me daba consejos y me vaci-laba. Tenía un corazón muy grande sincontrol alguno, una cabeza que se guiabapor un instinto confuso y que quiso vivir lavida a su manera. Una persona que nuncapasó desapercibida por su forma de ser;alguien muy especial, que me hizo ver lavida de una manera que nunca me pudeimaginar. Me ayudó a madurar de unamanera difícil, pero de la que aprendímucho. Siempre fue una persona alegre,que se reía hasta de su sombra. No teníalímites.¿Qué competiciones vas a disputareste año? ¿Tour, Giro, Vuelta…?Este año sacrifico la Vuelta y correré el Girode Italia y el Tour de Francia.¿Qué expectativas tienes en cadauna de ellas?Llegar preparado para afrontarlas con lasmayores garantías.¿Vamos a poder disfrutar del ciclismode Sastre durante muchos años más?Ya me gustaría poder aguantar hasta loscuarenta, pero de momento éste y otromás, que son los que me unen a mi nuevoequipo.

He was a happyperson capable of laughing at himself. Hewas limitless.Which competitions do you plan tocompete in this year? Es momento de descanso y después de alojarse disfrutaráde un paseo por la ciudad, atravesará el río camino a la ermita de San Saturio, paseocotidiano de muchos sorianos, y visitará el claustro románico de San Juan de Duero.

SÁBADO: LAS EDADES DEL HOMBRE “PAISAJE INTERIOR”El inicio del día nos espera con dos alternativas a cual más interesante:• Duero 1: En la ciudad de Soria puede disfrutar de un amanecer tranquilo paseando

DOMINGO: CASILLAS DE BERLANGA Y GORMAZVuelve a sumergirse en el cauce del río Duero para llegar hasta Berlanga de Duero,

donde paseará por su recinto amurallado y visitará la Colegiata. Después irá hasta lavecina localidad de Casillas de Berlanga, donde se encuentra la ermita de San Baudelio,obra cumbre del arte mozárabe en la región, y, posteriormente, se acercará hasta Gormazpara conocer su ermita de San Miguel –restaurada recientemente y que disfruta de pinturasmurales románicas de gran valor.

Hay que reponer fuerzas para disfrutar de la visita a la ciudad de El Burgo de Osma; allípuede optar por seguir el curso del río Duero hasta San Esteban de Gormaz o desplazarsehasta Ucero para poder practicar senderismo y disfrutar de todo un paseo por la naturalezaen el Parque Natural Cañón de Río Lobos.

Everything is prepared. The picturesque streets of the city of Soria, a city praisedby poets and irrigated by the River Duero, welcome you. After taking care of youraccommodation, you might like to take a relaxing stroll through the city’s picturesquestreets and across the river to the Hermitage of San Saturio, followed by a visit tothe Romanesque cloister of San Juan de Duero.

SATURDAY: THE “LAS EDADES DEL HOMBRE” (PAISAJE INTERIOR) EXHIBITIONSaturday dawns with two interesting possibilities:• Duero 1: An early stroll through Soria’s beautiful Alameda Park followed

by a visit to the “Las Edades del Hombre” (Paisaje Interior) Exhibition in theCo-cathedral of San Pedro. From here, you might like to follow the Duero River toAlmazan, finishing off your trip with a visit to the beautiful locality of Medinaceli.

• Duero 2: Alternatively, you may prefer to travel from Soria to Vinuesa for a visitto the Casa del Parque Laguna Negra and the Circos Glaciares de Urbion followedby a visit to the localities of Covaleda or Duruelo de la Sierra, home of the sourceof the River Duero or maybe visit the Laguna Negra before returning to Soria forlunch and a visit to the updated edition of the “Las Edades del Hombre” (PaisajeInterior) Exhibition.

SUNDAY: CASILLAS DE BERLANGA Y GORMAZFollow the Duero riverbank to Berlanga de Duero for a stroll around its walled

enclosure followed by a visit to the local Collegiate Church. From here, you mightlike to carry on to the neighbouring locality of Casillas de Berlanga where you willfind the outstanding, Mozarab style Hermitage of San Baudelio and the nearbyHermitage of San Miguel in Gormaz. This recently restored building houses a varietyof Romanesque murals of great value.

From here, we would suggest you pay a visit to the town of El Burgo de Osmawhere you might like to continue the course of the river to San Esteban de Gormazor Ucero where you will find the beautiful Cañon de Rio Lobos Nature Park.

Itinerary 2: Soria and its medieval fortressesFRIDAY AFTERNOON: GORMAZ AND BURGO DE OSMA

Following a visit to Gormaz and the beautiful Hermitage of San Miguel, whereyou will find part of the “Las Edades del Hombre” (Paisaje Interior) Exhibition, andthe spectacular Gormaz Castle, considered Europe’s largest caliphal fortress, wewould suggest you make a quick trip to the locality of El Burgo de Osma.

SATURDAY: CASILLAS DE BERLANGA AND FORTRESSESWe would suggest a visit to El Burgo de Osma and the Osma Castle to visit San

Esteban de Gormaz. Whilst here, do not miss a trip to the top of the castle where youwill be rewarded with a variety of spectacular panoramic views of the River Duero.

From here, you might like to stop off at Casillas de Berlanga where you will findthe picturesque Hermitage of San Baudelio and the outstanding wall murals thatform part of the “Las Edades del Hombre” (Paisaje Interior) Exhibition.

This area also houses an interesting number of Arab watchtowers such as theCaltojar, Rello, Caracena and Navapalos towers. From here, we would suggest youmake your way to Ucero where you will be able to visit its emblematic fortress priorto a trip to the magical locality of Calatañazor, guaranteed to transport you back intime.

Close to the city of Soria, stand the Torretartajo and Aldealseñor towers and theHinojosa de la Sierra castle ruins which you might like to see before taking a restin this fascinating city.

SUNDAY: A STROLL AROUND THE “PAISAJE INTERIOR”We would recommend a stroll through the Alameda Park followed by a morning

visit to the “Las Edades del Hombre” (Paisaje Interior) Exhibition. From here, youmight like to visit some of the city’s Romanesque monuments prior to visiting theDuero riverbank, praised on numerous occasions by poets and writers such asAntonio Machado, Gerardo Diego and Gustavo Adolfo Becquer.

After lunch, we would suggest you make your way to Agreda where you will findthe remains of the Muela calphal castle dating back to the 10th century and theancient gateways that once formed part of the city walls. You will also find, in thearea surrounding Agreda, a number of interesting medieval towers such as theTrebago, Cigudosa, Noviercas and Aldealpozo towers.

En el camino merece una parada Casillas de Berlanga, donde podrá contemplar laermita de San Baudelio y sus pinturas murales, obra externa de Las Edades del Hombre.

En esta zona destacan algunas atalayas musulmanas como la de Caltojar, Rello, Caracenao Navapalos, entre otras. Luego se dirigirá hasta Ucero, donde tendrá la oportunidad devisitar su emblemática fortaleza, antes de continuar hasta la mágica localidad de Calatañazory disfrutar de la sensación de un viaje en el tiempo.

En los alrededores de Soria capital, tendrá la oportunidad de conocer las torres deTorretartajo, Aldealseñor o las ruinas del castillo señorial de Hinojosa de la Sierra y finalizarla jornada descansando en Soria.

DOMINGO: UN PASEO POR PAISAJE INTERIORComenzará el día con un paseo por el Parque de la Alameda para luego dedicar

la mañana a visitar “Paisaje Interior”. Antes del almuerzo, disfrutará de una visita por laciudad, que le llevará a conocer interesantes ejemplos de arquitectura románica, así comoun estupendo paseo a orillas del Duero, tantas veces cantado por Antonio Machado, GerardoDiego o Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer.

Después de reponer fuerzas, partirá hacia Ágreda, donde verá los restos del castillocalifal de la Muela, del siglo X, y las puertas de la ciudad que se conservan del antiguorecinto amurallado. The efforts made to turn La Palma into a popular nature resort become evident ifwe take into account events such as the 40th World Hiking Congress programmedto take place here in October. It will, between 2nd and 4th October, 2009, become a meeting point for hikers andramblers from all over the world who will be offered the unique opportunity ofexperiencing the incomparable virtues of this magnificent Mediterranean island forthemselves.

Ya ha pasado más de un cuarto de siglodesde que un grupo de profesionales de Feve tuvo la iniciativa de recrear el ambiente nostálgico de los viajesen tren en el norte de España. En la España de entonces aquello fue una idea insólita, casi temeraria, que,sin embargo, pronto se reveló como un acierto. El éxito y la fama de El Transcantábrico ha venido creciendodesde entonces, a la vez que este tren también cambiaba y se modernizaba, pero sin perder ni un ápice de suencantador aroma a otros tiempos, en los que viajar era algo más que desplazarse de un lugar a otro e importabano sólo el destino, sino también el trayecto.

The Transcantabrico is the oldest tourist train in Spain. It has, since it began operating 26 years ago, travelledthousands of kilometres. Over a quarter of a century has gone by since a group of Feve railway professionals decided torecreate the nostalgic atmosphere of northern Spain’s ancient train routes. SEASONAL NOVELTIESEach year, the Transcantabrico improves and adapts its first-class service to meet

changing market demand. A full annual maintenance is carried out on the mechanicalparts and furnishings. This work is carried out in the Feve workshops. A number ofsmall variations on the train routes are normally introduced to increase, if this ispossible, the attractiveness of this tourist package. This year two new places ofinterest have been incorporated. The first is a visit to the Castilla y Leon Mining andIron and Steelworks Museum in the Sabero Valley (Leon), a modern, interactivemuseum installed in the Ferreria de San Blas, considered an archaeological andindustrial architectural gem. Monta un propulsor V10 de posición trasera longitudinal con una potencia de 780 cv yla transmisión de potencia al suelo se realiza a través de unos neumáticos Pirelli 255/35 enllanta de 19 pulgadas en el eje delantero, y unas gomas 335/30 en llanta de 20 pulgadasdetrás.

La gran superficie acristalada otorga una fuerte personalidad al coche, convirtiéndose enuno de sus rasgos característicos.

Destacable su sistema patentado de opacidad e iluminación que puede regular el gradode luz que se quiere disponer en el interior y sus parasoles integrados.

El diseño del salpicadero simula el lateral del coche, proporcionando al interior unaexclusiva personalidad. Hay una pantalla LCD, que puede ser personalizada a voluntad delcliente.

he GTA Spano is a pioneering sports car designed and manufactured by theValencian company, GTA Motor. It was officially launched at the end of last

April at the l’Hemisferic in the Valencia Arts and Science Centre in front of anaudience of over 2,000 people.

A total of 99 units of this exclusive sports car, characterised for its sleekaerodynamic style and exclusive special features, are programmed for manufacture.With an acceleration of 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in less than 3 seconds, theGTA Spano sports car is able to reach a maximum speed of 350 kilometres perhour. Its chassis has been built using a combination of carbon fibre, titanium andKevlar turning it into a sectorial reference point similar to what is considered oneof the most popular Italian designer cars, the Pagani.

The GTA Spano has been fitted with a special V10, longitudinal rear position,780 horsepower engine with rear wheel drive. It has 19 inch wheels with Pirelli255/35 tyres at the front and 20 inch wheels with Pirelli 335/30 tyres at the rear.

The large car windows and panoramic sunroof provide the GTA Spano with astrong personality, a further characteristic trait.

Another of the outstanding features available is a patented automatic light filtersystem which allows drivers to regulate the type of interior lighting they wishto use.

The design of the dashboard resembles the lateral part of the car. This featureprovides the interior with a beautifully exclusive character. Its dashboard is fittedwith a LCD screen which can be personalised according to driver requirements.

The driving wheel includes a joystick for operating elements such as the car’sheadlights, indicators and screen wipers.

The owners of this ambitious project, initiated five years ago, GTA Motor, hassigned several distribution agreements with some of the world’s most importantinternational car companies. a presencia del hombre en Formentera se remonta al menos a 4.000 años. De ladominación romana queda como máximo exponente el campamento de Can Blai, en las

cercanías de Es Caló. Tras el periodo de dominación árabe, Ibiza y Formentera fueronconquistadas por tropas catalanas en 1235. La emigración a tierras lejanas fue una constantehasta mediados del siglo XX. El turismo cambió de forma radical la economía y la sociedadde la isla. Los hippies contribuyeron de forma decisiva en darla a conocer y unir su nombrea un modo distinto de entender la vida y hacer turismo.

Pasados los siglos, todavía no se sabe a ciencia cierta la procedencia de las manifesta-ciones folclóricas de Formentera, aunque resulta obvio que las reminiscencias son árabes(mayormente en el canto) son muchos los matices que pueden hacer dudar de ello. Llamapoderosamente la atención la simbología de la danza así como la singularidad de losinstrumentos musicales que se utilizan, elaborados totalmente de forma artesanal partiendode la base del uso de materias primas exclusivamente autóctonas.

Tanto Formentera como las islas que la rodean son conocidas por sus playas y susaguas transparentes, pero si visitamos su interior y sus bosques podemos descubrir lavariedad de paisajes que ofrece la isla.

located close to Es Calo. In 1235, following the occupation of the Moors, Ibiza andFormentera were conquered by Catalonian troops. The Hippycult contributed in a decisive way to its changing image, bringing about a new lifestyleand a new type of tourist industry.

In spite of years of research, the origin of Formentera’s folklore is still not clear.Even though the influences (mainly musical influences) would appear to be Arab,there are, it would appear, a number of subtle differences that have created a certainamount of doubt. The symbolism of its dances and singularity of the musicalinstruments manufactured by local craftsmen using different autochthonous rawmaterials are, to say the least, striking.

Formentera is, along with its surrounding islands, famous for its beaches andbeautiful transparent waters. A trip inland, however, home of magnificent forestsamongst other things, will reveal other spectacular landscapes.

Visitors looking to discover the true beauty of Formentera and its outstandingscenery should not miss a visit to the La Mola and Es Cap de Barbaria lighthouseareas, places of spectacular beauty guaranteed to entrap visitors’ emotions.

This Mediterranean paradise is perfect for a relaxing holiday. Visitors will find herea wide variety of adventure activities along with a number of excellent installations forthe practise of nautical sports. Worth a special mention are its scuba diving activities.Formentera is, without a doubt, the ideal place for those wanting to practise differenttypes of marine sports.

Its coast constitutes one of the best conserved Mediterranean coastlines. It is homeof the splendid Freus Marine Reserve of Ibiza and Formentera. In fact, it is the onlynature area in the Mediterranean Sea to have been declared a World Heritage Sitesby the UNESCO.

Scuba divers will find here visibility of up to 50 meters as well as a variety ofstunning underwater scenery made up of sea caves, walls with gorgonians, shipwrecks,shallow areas full of beautiful vistas and fields of Mediterranean tape weed, consideredsome of the best conserved in the Mediterranean. The unique characteristics of theisland also permit sailing and windsurfing enthusiasts to practise these sports all yearround.

In October, an annual Underwater Photography Week takes place here, thanks tothe transparency and mild temperature of the sea, attracting numerous photographersand scuba diving experts. The competition includes snorkelling and junior categoriescreated as a way of introducing the younger members of the family to scuba diving.

A number of adventure sport companies also provide activities such as daytimeand after sunset kayak excursions, windsurfing, sailing, catamaran sailing, kitesurfing, electric bicycle and trekking tours. We would mention that cycling andtrekking enthusiasts will find a network of well-signposted tracks crossing areas ofgreat scenic interest.

The best way to really get to know the island and its beautiful landscapes is on footor by bicycle. No only do these activities reduce contamination, but they also permitvisitors access to places which might otherwise go unnoticed, areas guaranteed toinundate the senses with the sounds and aromas of nature, producing a cascade ofsensations.

GASTRONOMY: Fish is, without a doubt, one of the most popular ingredients ofFormentera’s magnificent gastronomy. Whether served in a “guisat” or “bullit” (twopopular variations of the Mediterranean fish stew) or part of a rice dish, its mouth-watering local fish will transform any dish into an authentic Mediterranean work of art.

Figs (fresh and dried), goat’s cheese, one of the ingredients of the delicious localdessert known as “flao”, and the local “peix sec” (sun dried fish that once shreddedis used as part of the local salads) are some of the secrets of Formentera’s deliciousgastronomy.

Además la singularforma de la isla facilita la práctica de la vela y del windsurf durante todos los días del año.

Por la transparencia y temperatura templada del mar en octubre se organiza la SemanaFotográfica Submarina que atrae a numerosos fotógrafos y expertos submarinistas hastaFormentera, habiendo también una categoría para snorkel y niños a fin de fomentar estasprácticas entre los más pequeños.

Diferentes empresas dedicadas al turismo activo ofrecen desde excursiones en kayak dedía y de noche para ver la puesta de sol, windsurf, vela, catamarán, kite surf, excursionesen bicicleta eléctrica, senderismo... para éstos últimos aficionados al senderismo y alcicloturismo, la isla dispone de circuitos verdes debidamente señalizados, que transcurrenpor zonas de especial interés paisajístico.

Dadas las características de Formentera, resulta evidente que la forma ideal para recorrerlaes a pie o en bicicleta, que además de no resultar contaminante permite visitar tranquila-mente lugares insólitos que de otra forma pasan desapercibidos. Disfrutando de sus sonidosy olores y dándonos un baño de sensaciones.

GASTRONOMÍA: El pescado es el lujo de la gastronomía formenterense. Sea en“guisat” o “bullit” (dos variantes del caldero mediterráneo) o como parte esencial de unarroz (caldoso o seco), el pescado de Formentera es capaz de transformar cualquier platoen un compendio de esencia mediterránea.

Por lo demás, al mando de la cuidada restauración, Paco Roncero, convierte los ingre-dientes más selectos en prodigios gongorinos para el paladar, como chef, desde 1998, deLa Terraza del Casino, con una estrella Michelin. Recientemente, el interiorista JaimeHayón (merecedor de premios como Wallpaper o el Elle Decor Internacional) renovó ladecoración de sus salones con su estilo vanguardista y lúdico. Como una delicada ygamberra caja de música gigante, la Terraza del Casino traslada a los comensales a unespacio que parece imaginado por el loco sombrerero de Alicia, con sus grandes espejosromboidales, su suelo ajedrezado, las delirantes arañas de luz, sus regordetas columnas osus elegantes y excéntricos sillones. rom its amazing carpeted staircase, the envy of every Cinderella and a favouritestage for magazine productions from all over the world, to its recently restored

terrace, the Casino de Madrid conceals spaces to make one envious for holdingcelebrations of all kinds. It is no surprise that this historic building, opposite theBank of Spain and the "Círculo de Bellas Artes" is part of the Nation's Heritage.

All kinds of events have taken place in its nine reception rooms, that can holdup to 1,200 people. He has, since 1998, been thechef of La Terraza del Casino, with a Michelin star. The interior decorator, JaimeHayón, who has won prizes such as Wallpaper and the Elle Decor Internacional)refurbished the reception rooms in his avant-garde, playful style. Like a delicate,rowdy, giant music box, the Terraza del Casino takes its guests into a space thatlooks as if has been made up by the Mad Hatter of Alice in Wonderland, withits large rhomboidal mirrors, its chequered floor, the rapturous chandeliers, itstubby columns and its elegant, eccentric shrills. The menus on the Company’s international flights may differ from the menuson its national flights. The type of aircraft also plays an important role in the typeof menus offered. The common denominator with regard to its menus, however,is their excellent quality.

Iberia Regional AIR NOSTRUM stands out, amongst other things, for thespecial attention it gives to its passengers transforming these into the realprotagonists of its flights. Its on-board service includes a free bar service.Passengers will, upon request, be served the drink of their choice. All drinks areaccompanied by a small packet of nuts.

It is worth noting that Iberia Regional AIR NOSTRUM has, for security reasons,had to reduce part of its On-board Service on a number of short-range flights inaccordance with present-day flight regulations.

The AIR NOSTRUM Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Carlos Bertomeu, recentlygave a conference, as part of the 4th EDEM Foundation 15x15 BusinessCourse, on business cooperation. The aim of this business course is for theparticipating executives to acquire and interchange knowledge based on theexperience of organisations considered sectorial reference points.

The day ended with a visit to AIR NOSTRUM’s famous maintenancehangar and its operational and commercial areas where participants wereinformed about the Company’s working strategies and provided with ideasthat, once properly structured, would contribute to improved companymanagement.

EDEM is a school of business studies located in Valencia that offerstraining programmes for entrepreneurs and company executives. Its missionis to aid executives, from the Comunidad Valenciana’s leading companies, toincrease their enterprising spirit and leadership skills.

AIR NOSTRUM increases its flight frequencies betweenMadrid and Montpellier

AIR NOSTRUM has, this month, increased its number of weekly flightsbetween Madrid and Montpellier. Passengers will now be able to choosefrom a total of four weekly Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday returnflights.

This increase in flight frequencies will greatly improve communicationsbetween the cities of Madrid and Montpellier as far as business and leisureflights are concerned. Passengers will also have greater access to the IberiaGroup Domestic, European and Intercontinental flight network.

As part of this increase in flight frequencies on the Madrid-Montpellierflight route, AIR NOSTRUM has decided to introduce a special promotionalreturn flight tariff of 175.39 Euros, including taxes and airport charges, onall Friday flights irrespective of the day of return (as long as passengersreturn within ten days from the date of departure). With regard to theMontpellier-Madrid flight route, a special promotional return flight tariff of153.39 Euros will be available under the same conditions as mentionedabove. These promotional flight tariffs will be on offer up to 10th July, 2009on the www.Iberia.com web page, at Serviberia (902 400 500) and throughlocal travel agencies although, prices may vary with regard to the two latteroptions as a result of slight variations in ticket emission charges.
