Chhachhi’s large-scale installation The Water Diviner draws on Indian traditions, history and imagery to show the importance of water in Indian culture. Francesco Jodice, ItalyFilm still, A Water Tale, 2008

So starts a tale told by an old fisherman to his young companion, as they passthrough a desolate and arid environment where drought reigns. A Water Talerecalls that water is essential to life, land, and men. Francesco Jodice’s film giveswater the starring role as protagonist of the film, making it visible simply by itsabsence. Water becomes a myth, an oral history transmitted over generations. With draught affecting the sustenance of fishermen, it extends also to the people, fauna, and flora and as well, the environmental equilibrium of the planet.

A WORLD MAP, model of a playground design for children2001“A World Map, is a playground for children to become attached to the earth. It is a topographical play-area which inverts our common perception of the world. The ‘land’ areas are solid and blue, while the ‘oceans’ are empty spaces filled with sand. Also the world is represented as ‘off-centred’ with the Asia-Pacific region in the middle, and Europe and the Americas on the edges at either sides.

Stephanie Nava, FranceLe cours figé des lignes, 2012

Le cours figé des lignes is a project realised during the artists’ residence at Moly Sabata of the AlbertGleizes Foundation, along the Rhone river. The installation focuses on the determination anddefinition of borders, as well as the idea of a natural frontier that can be represented by a riveras the Rhone. Even though lines are fixed, water can create connections and divide space in an organic way.
