Presidir una institución como la Autoridad Portuaria de Huelva es un reto y una responsabilidad en plena era de la globalización. Nos hemos convertido en uno de los grandes nodos logísticos e industriales y motor económico de desarrollo para Huelva y toda Andalucía, un puerto de referencia en el suroeste europeo, que mira a otros continentes como África, Asia y América. Por ello tenemos más responsabilidad si cabe con el territorio y eso nos lleva a apostar desde el puerto por el impulso de la industria 4.0, trabajando en la innovación digital en favor de la competitividad y la sostenibilidad, abriendo nuevos caminos hacia la diversificación del negocio, tanto marítimo como terrestre, la logística y la apuesta por el conocimiento, con el firme propósito de situar nuestro puerto y nodo industrial en el mapa internacional de un mundo cada vez más interconectado, pero sin olvidarnos de nuestro ámbito de influencia.

En su apuesta por la sostenibilidad, la Autoridad Portuaria de Huelva forma parte del sistema EcoPorts de la Organización Europea de Puertos Marítimos, una certificación medioambiental que se refiere a la actividad, los productos y los servicios que presta el Puerto y que supone un reconocimiento a su compomiso medioambiental para la Autoridad Portuaria de Huelva. Además, hemos recibido este año la certificación ISO 14001 que avala nuestra gestión medioambiental.

Y es que estamos en un momento clave en el que hemos revisado nuestro Plan Estratégico del que se ha cumplido más de un 70% de los objetivos planteados en 2012 y caminamos con paso firme a consolidarnos como puerto logístico, sostenible e integrado con el entorno.

Así lo constatan las cifras récord de tráfico portuario con las que hemos cerrado el ejercicio 2017, con más de 32 millones de toneladas, que esperamos superar en 2018, lo que nos sitúa como uno de los puertos más relevantes del sistema portuario español.

Los tráficos tradicionales también siguen la senda de la consolidación y del crecimiento, debido a un aumento de la demanda. En esta misma línea en 2017 se confirma la tendencia de crecimiento del tráfico de mercancías general gracias a la apuesta por la multimodalidad y a la búsqueda de nuevas líneas y clientes, lo que ha supuesto superar la cifra que nos marcábamos el pasado año fijada en 50 mil TEUs habiendo cerrado con 58.166. Esto supone un aumento del 392,01% sobre el cierre del año 2016.

Por todo ello, el Puerto de Huelva debe incrementar su papel como motor de impulso para la dinamización económica y la creación de empleo en su área de influencia, con la ayuda del resto de agentes sociales integradores de la ciudad, siendo sostenibles y respetuosos con nuestro entorno. Del mismo modo, debe ser un referente de capacidad, capacitación, innovación y cualificación para seguir afrontando con éxito los retos que plantea un mercado global y competitivo.

To be in charge of an institution like the Port Authority of Huelva is a challenge and responsibility in this age of globalisation. We have become one of the biggest industrial and logistic hubs and economic development engines for Huelva and all Andalucía. It is a port of reference in Southern Europe that looks to continents such as Africa, Asia and America. As such, we have more responsibility, if possible, the hinterland territory and that has led us at the port to commit to promoting the Industry 4.0 concept, working on digital innovation to favour competitiveness and sustainability, opening new paths towards business diversification, in terms of both land and sea, and logistics. It has also led us to commit to knowledge with the solid aim of placing our port and industrial hub on the international map of an increasingly interconnected world, without forgetting our area of influence.

Under its commitment to sustainability the Port Authority of Huelva forms part of the EcoPorts system of the European Sea Port Organisation, an environmental certification that relates to the activity, products and services that the Port provides, which is understood to be recognition of the Port Authority of Huelva’s commitment to the environment. Furthermore, this year we received the ISO 14001 certification that guarantees our environmental management.

We are currently at an important moment in time, as we have reviewed our Strategy Plan. Over 70% of the objectives established in 2012 have been achieved and we are advancing steadily towards becoming a logistical and sustainable port that is integrated into its environment.

That is reflected in the record figures of port traffic recorded up to the end of the 2017 financial year – with over 32 million tonnes–, a figure we hope to exceed in 2018, which makes us one of the most important ports in the entire Spanish port system.

Traditional traffic is also following the path of consolidation and growth due to an increase in demand. In 2017 the growth trend related to general freight traffic was confirmed. This was due to a commitment to multimodality and a search for new lines and clients, which resulted in us exceeding the objective we set last year of 50,000 TEUs, ending the year on 58,166. This corresponds to an increase of 392.01% on year-end 2016.

For that reason, the Port of Huelva must increase its role as an engine for economic revitalisation and job creation in its area of influence, with help from the other social agents integrated in the city, while being sustainable and respecting our environment. Similarly, it must be a reference of capacity, training, innovation and expertise to continue to successfully face the challenges posed by a global and competitive marketplace.
