MensajeSaludos de Proyecto de Salud Sangre de Cristo en Guatemala, dondetomamos algunos minutos para mirar atrás y reflexionar sobre lasbendiciones y gracia que fueron nuestras durante el 2008. El añocomenzó en medio de cambio y transición con Adela iniciando sunuevo papel como Directora de Servicios Médicos, unificando suenergía y sus objetivos con Dani, y juntas habíamos querido brindarliderazgo y dirección para el Proyecto. Un nuevo momento habíallegado y entramos en ello con un poco de temor e incertidumbre.Nos comparó con jalar de un hilo y permitiendo que este hilo nosguíe, sin saber a dónde nos llevaría. Y ahora podemos compartirque este hilo nos llevó en el camino hacia un involucramiento masestrecho con las comunidades a través de líderes comunitarios yvoluntarios y voluntarias locales. Este hilo nos llevó al deseo delequipo de aprender y adquirir nuevos conocimientos y así queempezamos clases de computación, promover educación continua yun empoderamiento de los miembros del equipo para guiar elproceso. Al seguir jalando el hilo durante el año pasado, nos llevóa profundizar nuestro proceso de planificación y evaluación con unaorientación mayor en acciones de cambio y resultados positivos. Yeste hilo ha llevado a nosotras, las directoras del Proyecto, a conocermás el corazón generoso y compromiso de servicio de cada miembrode nuestro equipo. Y por eso y más, estamos muy agradecidas.Ahora, paradas en un terreno firme y seguro, le damos gracias aDios por dirigir este Proyecto a un crecimiento apreciable y un enfoquemas profundo de vivir nuestra misión. Pedimos que tú tambiénrecibas las bendiciones en el camino.

Greetings from the Sangre de Cristo Health Care Project in Guatemala,as we take a few minutes to look back and reflect on the blessingsand graces that were ours during 2008. The year began with changeand transition as Adela initiated her new role as Medical Director,joining energy and objectives with Dani, and together we sought toprovide leadership and direction for the Project. A new moment hadarrived and we stepped into it with a bit of trepidation and uncertainty.We liken it to pulling on a thread and allowing this thread to leadus, not knowing where we would go. And now we can share thatthis thread led us on a path to further involvement in the communitiesthrough community leaders and local volunteers. This thread led usto the team’s desire to learn and acquire new skills and so we startedcomputer classes, encouraged continuing education and empoweredstaff members to help lead the process. As we continued pulling onthe thread this past year, we were led to broaden our planning andevaluation process with an even greater focus on change makingand positive results. And this thread led us, as the directors of theProject, to come to know the generous heart and commitment toservice of each member of our team. And for this and more, we aregrateful. Now standing on firm and steady ground, we give thanksto God for guiding this Project to greater growth and a deeper wayof living our mission. May you too, be blessed on the journey.

Actividades Notables

Al ver el crecimiento del Proyecto de Salud y la constancia de los servicios a lo largo de los años, nos motivó en 2008 a iniciar el desarrollode un plan para establecer una sede permanente que se convertirá en el centro o el corazón del Proyecto de Salud Sangre de Cristo, lugardonde se desarrollarán las actividades administrativas y distribución de insumos y medicamentos y el centro de partida de todos los diversosservicios y actividades hacia las diferentes comunidades. Este centro será también un lugar para darle continuidad a los variados programaseducativos y de capacitación que actualmente se desarrollan en espacios prestados. Durante este último año, se han dado pasos adelanteen hacer este sueño una realidad, incluyendo la compra de 2 extensiones de tierra adyacente a la dirección administrativa actual y laclínica médica de La Laguneta, el estudio topográfico de la tierra, gestionando a través de requisitos complejos la obtención de los títulosoficiales de propiedad, la realización de una evaluación apropiada de las necesidades y el plasmado en papel, de las ideas de un diseñoarquitectónico. Gracias a varias donaciones destinadas a la compra de terrenos y los servicios profesionales brindados en forma gratuita,estas acciones se llevaron a cabo sin afectar a las numerosas actividades del Proyecto de Salud Sangre de Cristo. Estamos llenos y llenasde gratitud, esperanza y entusiasmo a medida que avanzamos con este sueño. Únete a nosotros y nosotras!

Durante el año 2008 aumentaron las solicitudes que recibimos para asistencia de salud en las diferentes comunidades necesitadas.Respondiendo a esta llamada tuvimos como resultado una ampliación de nuestro programa de jornadas médicas, bajo la dirección deDra. Aissa Del Cid, luego se convirtió en un complemento mensual para nuestro programa de vacunación. Junto con las consultas médicasy dando los medicamentos necesarios, las médicas y las enfermeras también impartieron una charla educativa en salud sobre temas deacuerdo a las necesidades de la comunidad beneficiaria. Además, participamos en 3 ferias de la salud y facilitamos asistencia de emergenciaa 25 familias en San Pedro Ayampuc que sufrieron las consecuencias de las inundaciones y deslaves. La colaboración con las comunidadesinvolucradas y la dedicación y el compromiso demostrado en la respuesta a estas necesidades nos inspiró y nos dejó una satisfacciónprofunda al poder compartir los dones que Dios ha puesto en nosotros y nosotras.

En marzo de este año, dimos la bienvenida a las Hermanas Jan Renz y Barb Hudock del consejo de las Adoratrices de la Sangre de Cristo.Jan y Barb tuvieron la oportunidad de visitar los diferentes sitios y programas del Proyecto de Salud, tras lo cual, junto con Hna. Dani Brought,ASC y el equipo del Proyecto se unió con Hna. Kris Schrader, ASC y el personal del Instituto Básico por Cooperativo Maria De Mattías parauna reflexión sobre los valores y el ministerio en los dos proyectos. Un momento conmovedor fue compartido cuando cada persona renovósu compromiso de vivir más profundamente la misión como se expresa en los proyectos y luego se acercó a Kris y Dani para recibir unsímbolo del compromiso. Algunos días después nos unimos de nuevo con nuestros amigos y amigas para celebrar el 20 ºaniversario delInstituto. Los miembros del Proyecto atendieron un puesto de salud durante las actividades de este día y el equipo de Salud Ambiental dirigióun taller sobre reciclaje para fabricar papel de forma artesanal.

The growth of the Health Care Project and the consistency of services over the years, motivated us during 2008 to initiate a plan to developa permanent center that will become the hub or the heart of the Sangre de Cristo Health Care Project. This will provide a central place foradministrative and distribution activities and will be the center from which all the various services and activities would go out into the differentcommunities. This center will also be a place to continue the many and varied educational and training programs that we currently carry outin borrowed spaces. During this past year, we took steps forward in making this dream a reality, including the purchase of 2 tracts of landadjacent to the main office and clinic in La Laguneta, topographical land study, weaving our way through complex requirements to obtainthe official property titles, conducting a needs assessment with property evaluation and putting to paper the beginning ideas for an architecturaldesign. Thanks to several gifts designated for the land purchase and in-kind donated professional services, these actions were implementedwithout affecting the many activities of the Health Care Project. We are filled with gratitude, hope and excitement as we move forward withthis dream. Join with us!

During 2008 we received increased requests for health care assistance from a number of different communities in need. Responding to thiscall resulted in an expansion of our day long medical campaigns which under the leadership of Dr. Aissa Del Cid, became a monthly additionto our immunization program. Along with providing medical consults and the necessary medicine, the doctors and nurses also gave a healtheducational talk on topics pertinent to the needs of the benefiting community. In addition, we also participated in 3 community health fairsand provided emergency assistance for 25 families in San Pedro Ayampuc who suffered the consequences of flooding and mudslides. Thecollaboration with the communities involved and the dedication and commitment demonstrated in responding to these needs was inspiringand left a deep sense of satisfaction for being able to share the gifts God has placed within us.

In March of this year we welcomed Sisters Jan Renz and Barb Hudock from the leadership team of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ. Janand Barb had the opportunity to visit the various sites and programs of the Health Care Project, after which they, along with Sister Dani Brought,ASC and the Project staff, joined with Sister Kris Schrader, ASC and the personnel from the Maria De Mattias Secondary School Institute for areflection on values and ministry in the two projects. A touching moment was shared as each person renewed their commitment to live moredeeply the mission as expressed in the projects and then came forward to receive a symbol of that commitment from Kris and Dani. A fewdays later we joined our friends again to celebrate with them the 20th anniversary of the Institute. Project members provided a station withhealth screenings during the day's activities and members of the Environmental Health and Sanitation Team led a workshop on recyclingand artisan paper making.

Aplicar una buena administración de los recursos que se nos handado y aprovechar con sabiduría los fondos disponibles, nos hapermitido facilitar una gran diversidad de servicios. La utilizacióneficiente y eficaz del presupuesto operativo anual del 2008 deQ 2,400,00.00, nos ha permitido tener un impacto positivo en lacalidad de vida de más de 120,000 personas de escasos recursosque viven en las comunidades apoyadas.

Providing good stewardship of the resources given to us and wiselyusing the funds available have permitted us to provide a wide rangeof services. The efficient utilization of the 2008 annual operationalbudget of $320,000.00 allowed us to positively impact the qualityof life for over 120,000 people with limited resources living in thesurrounding communities.

Todos los servicios, programas y esfuerzos de nuestro Proyecto deSalud se realizan por la voluntad de muchas personas. Parte deesta red de gente colaboradora es el equipo permanente de personascomprometidas, personas brindando un servicio profesional, de altacalidad e incondicional. Durante el año 2008, 34 diferentes personasintegraron el equipo, compartieron sus diversos dones y talentos paramejorar la calidad de vida de los demás.

All of the services, programs and activities of our Health Care Projectare carried out through the combined efforts of many participants.Part of this collaborative network is the team of permanent staffmembers - a group of committed persons, providing service whichis professional, high quality and given unconditionally. During thispast year 34 individuals were part of the staff, sharing their diversegifts and talents in helping to better the quality of life for others.

Volunteers, both Guatemalan and from other countries, are an importantcomplement adding vitality and energy in the realization of ourmission. They contribute their physical efforts and spirit of collaborationin helping to develop and carry out the many activities of our Project. The sharing of skills, time, energy and heart of these 63 partnersand friends during 2008 helped to widen the circle and enrich thelives of all involved.
