1 Pablo, apóstol de Cristo Jesús por la voluntad de Dios, y el hermano Timoteo:

A la iglesia de Dios que está en Corinto, con todos los santos que están en toda Acaya: 2 Gracia

y paz a vosotros de parte de Dios nuestro Padre y del Señor Jesucristo.

El Dios de toda consolación

3 Bendito sea el Dios y Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, Padre de misericordias y Dios de toda

consolación, 4 el cual nos consuela en toda tribulación nuestra, para que nosotros podamos

consolar a los que están en cualquier aflicción con el consuelo con que nosotros mismos somos

consolados por Dios. 5 Porque así como los sufrimientos de Cristo son nuestros en abundancia,

así también abunda nuestro consuelo por medio de Cristo. 6 Pero si somos atribulados, es para

vuestro consuelo y salvación; o si somos consolados, es para vuestro consuelo, que obra al

soportar las mismas aflicciones que nosotros también sufrimos. 7 Y nuestra esperanza respecto

de vosotros está firmemente establecida, sabiendo que como sois copartícipes de los

sufrimientos, así también lo sois de la consolación. 8 Porque no queremos que ignoréis,

hermanos, acerca de nuestra aflicción sufrida en Asia, porque fuimos abrumados sobremanera,

más allá de nuestras fuerzas, de modo que hasta perdimos la esperanza de salir con vida. 9 De

hecho, dentro de nosotros mismos ya teníamos la sentencia de muerte, a fin de que no

confiáramos en nosotros mismos, sino en Dios que resucita a los muertos, 10 el cual nos libró

de tan gran peligro de muerte y nos librará, y en quien hemos puesto nuestra esperanza de que

El aún nos ha de librar, 11 cooperando también vosotros con nosotros con la oración, para que

por muchas personas sean dadas gracias a favor nuestro por el don que nos ha sido impartido

por medio de las oraciones de muchos.

Sinceridad de Pablo

12 Porque nuestra satisfacción es ésta: el testimonio de nuestra conciencia que en la santidad y

en la sinceridad que viene de Dios, no en sabiduría carnal sino en la gracia de Dios, nos hemos

conducido en el mundo y especialmente hacia vosotros. 13 Porque ninguna otra cosa os

escribimos sino lo que leéis y entendéis, y espero que entenderéis hasta el fin,14 así como

también nos habéis entendido en parte, que nosotros somos el motivo de vuestra gloria, así

como también vosotros la nuestra en el día de nuestro Señor Jesús.

15 Y con esta confianza me propuse ir primero a vosotros para que dos veces recibierais

bendición, 16 es decir, quería visitaros de paso a Macedonia, y de Macedonia ir de nuevo a

vosotros y ser encaminado por vosotros en mi viaje a Judea. 17 Por tanto, cuando me propuse

esto, ¿acaso obré precipitadamente? O lo que me propongo, ¿me lo propongo conforme a la

carne, para que en mí haya al mismo tiempo el sí, sí, y el no, no? 18 Pero como Dios es fiel,

nuestra palabra a vosotros no es sí y no. 19 Porque el Hijo de Dios, Cristo Jesús, que fue

predicado entre vosotros por nosotros (por mí y Silvano y Timoteo) no fue sí y no, sino que ha

sido sí en El. 20 Pues tantas como sean las promesas de Dios, en El todas son sí; por eso

también por medio de El, Amén, para la gloria de Dios por medio de nosotros. 21 Ahora bien, el

que nos confirma con vosotros en Cristo y el que nos ungió, es Dios, 22 quien también nos selló

y nos dio el Espíritu en nuestro corazón como garantía.

23 Mas yo invoco a Dios como testigo sobre mi alma, que por consideración a vosotros no he

vuelto a Corinto. 24 No es que queramos tener control de vuestra fe, sino que somos

colaboradores con vosotros para vuestro gozo; porque en la fe permanecéis firmes.

1Paulus, ein Apostel Jesu Christi durch den Willen Gottes, und Bruder Timotheus: Der

Gemeinde Gottes zu Korinth samt allen Heiligen in ganz Achaja.

2Gnade sei mit euch und Friede von Gott, unserm Vater, und dem HERRN Jesu Christo!

3Gelobet sei Gott und der Vater unsers HERRN Jesu Christi, der Vater der Barmherzigkeit und

Gott alles Trostes, 4der uns tröstet in aller unserer Trübsal, daß wir auch trösten können, die da

sind in allerlei Trübsal, mit dem Trost, damit wir getröstet werden von Gott. 5Denn gleichwie

wir des Leidens Christi viel haben, also werden wir auch reichlich getröstet durch

Christum. 6Wir haben aber Trübsal oder Trost, so geschieht es euch zugut. Ist's Trübsal, so

geschieht es euch zu Trost und Heil; welches Heil beweiset sich, so ihr leidet mit Geduld

dermaßen, wie wir leiden. Ist's Trost, so geschieht es euch auch zu Trost und Heil. 7Und stehet

unsere Hoffnung fest für euch, dieweil wir wissen, daß, wie ihr des Leidens teilhaftig seid, so

werdet ihr auch des Trostes teilhaftig sein.

8Denn wir wollen euch nicht verhalten, liebe Brüder, unsere Trübsal, die uns in Asien

widerfahren ist da wir über die Maßen beschweret waren und über Macht, also daß wir auch

am Leben verzagten 9und bei uns beschlossen hatten, wir müßten sterben. Das geschah aber

darum, daß wir unser Vertrauen nicht auf uns selbst stelleten, sondern auf Gott, der die Toten

auferwecket, 10welcher uns von solchem Tode erlöset hat und noch täglich erlöset; und hoffen

auf ihn, er werde uns auch hinfort erlösen 11durch Hilfe eurer Fürbitte für uns, auf daß über

uns für die Gabe, die uns gegeben ist, durch viel Personen viel Danks geschehe.

12Denn unser Ruhm ist der, nämlich das Zeugnis unsers Gewissens, daß wir in Einfältigkeit und

göttlicher Lauterkeit, nicht in fleischlicher Weisheit, sondern in der Gnade Gottes auf der Welt

gewandelt haben, allermeist aber bei euch. 13Denn wir schreiben euch nichts anderes, denn

was ihr leset und auch befindet. Ich hoffe aber, ihr werdet uns auch bis ans Ende also befinden,

gleichwie ihr uns zum Teil befunden habt 14Denn wir sind euer Ruhm, gleichwie auch ihr unser

Ruhm seid auf des HERRN Jesu Tag.

15Und auf solch Vertrauen gedachte ich jenes Mal zu euch zu kommen, auf daß ihr abermal

eine Wohltat empfinget, 16und ich durch euch nach Mazedonien reisete und wiederum aus

Mazedonien zu euch käme und von euch geleitet würde nach Judäa. 17Hab' ich aber eine

Leichtfertigkeit gebrauchet, da ich solches gedachte, oder sind meine Anschläge fleischlich?

Nicht also, sondern bei mir ist Ja Ja, und Nein ist Nein. 18Aber, o ein treuer Gott, daß unser

Wort an euch nicht Ja und Nein gewesen ist! 19Denn der Sohn Gottes, Jesus Christus, der unter

euch durch uns geprediget ist, durch mich und Silvanus und Timotheus, der war nicht Ja und

Nein, sondern es war Ja in ihm. 20Denn alle Gottesverheißungen sind Ja in ihm und sind Amen

in ihm Gott zu Lobe durch uns. 21Gott ist's aber, der uns befestiget samt euch in Christum und

uns gesalbet 22und versiegelt und in unsere Herzen das Pfand, den Geist, gegeben hat.

23Ich rufe aber Gott an zum Zeugen auf meine Seele, daß ich euer verschonet habe in dem, daß

ich nicht wieder gen Korinth kommen bin. 24Nicht daß wir HERREN seien über euren Glauben,

sondern wir sind Gehilfen eurer Freude; denn ihr stehet im Glauben.

Greetings from Paul

1This letter is from Paul, chosen by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus, and from our

brother Timothy.

I am writing to God’s church in Corinth and to all of his holy people throughout Greece.a

2May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.

God Offers Comfort to All

3All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source

of all comfort. 4He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are

troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. 5For the more we

suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ.6Even when we

are weighed down with troubles, it is for your comfort and salvation! For when we ourselves

are comforted, we will certainly comfort you. Then you can patiently endure the same things

we suffer. 7We are confident that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in the

comfort God gives us.

8We think you ought to know, dear brothers and sisters,b about the trouble we went through

in the province of Asia. We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and

we thought we would never live through it. 9In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we

stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead. 10And he

did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence

in him, and he will continue to rescue us. 11And you are helping us by praying for us. Then

many people will give thanks because God has graciously answered so many prayers for our

safety.

Paul’s Change of Plans

12We can say with confidence and a clear conscience that we have lived with a God-given

holinessc and sincerity in all our dealings. We have depended on God’s grace, not on our own

human wisdom. That is how we have conducted ourselves before the world, and especially

toward you. 13Our letters have been straightforward, and there is nothing written between the

lines and nothing you can’t understand. I hope someday you will fully understand us, 14even if

you don’t understand us now. Then on the day when the Lord Jesusd returns, you will be proud

of us in the same way we are proud of you.

15Since I was so sure of your understanding and trust, I wanted to give you a double blessing by

visiting you twice— 16first on my way to Macedonia and again when I returned from

Macedonia.e Then you could send me on my way to Judea.

17You may be asking why I changed my plan. Do you think I make my plans carelessly? Do you

think I am like people of the world who say “Yes” when they really mean “No”? 18As surely as

God is faithful, our word to you does not waver between “Yes” and “No.” 19For Jesus Christ,

the Son of God, does not waver between “Yes” and “No.” He is the one whom Silas,f Timothy,

and I preached to you, and as God’s ultimate “Yes,” he always does what he says. 20For all of

God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our

“Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.

21It is God who enables us, along with you, to stand firm for Christ. He has commissioned us,

22and he has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first

installment that guarantees everything he has promised us.

23Now I call upon God as my witness that I am telling the truth. The reason I didn’t return to

Corinth was to spare you from a severe rebuke. 24But that does not mean we want to

dominate you by telling you how to put your faith into practice. We want to work together with

you so you will be full of joy, for it is by your own faith that you stand firm.

Problemas en la iglesia de Corinto

1 Pero en mí mismo decidí esto: no ir otra vez a vosotros con tristeza. 2 Porque si yo os causo

tristeza, ¿quién será el que me alegre sino aquel a quien entristecí? 3 Y esto mismoos escribí,

para que cuando yo llegue no tenga tristeza de parte de los que debieran alegrarme, confiando

en todos vosotros de que mi gozo sea el mismo de todos vosotros. 4 Pues por la mucha aflicción

y angustia de corazón os escribí con muchas lágrimas, no para entristeceros, sino para que

conozcáis el amor que tengo especialmente por vosotros.

5 Pero si alguno ha causado tristeza, no me la ha causado a mí, sino hasta cierto punto (para no

exagerar) a todos vosotros. 6 Es suficiente para tal persona este castigo que le fue impuesto por

la mayoría; 7 así que, por el contrario, vosotros más bien deberíais perdonarlo y consolarlo, no

sea que en alguna manera éste sea abrumado por tanta tristeza. 8 Por lo cual os ruego que

reafirméis vuestro amor hacia él. 9 Pues también con este fin os escribí, para poneros a prueba

y ver si sois obedientes en todo. 10 Pero a quien perdonéis algo, yo también lo perdono; porque

en verdad, lo que yo he perdonado, si algo he perdonado, lo hice por vosotros en presencia de

Cristo, 11 para que Satanás no tome ventaja sobre nosotros, pues no ignoramos sus ardides.

De Troas a Macedonia

12 Cuando llegué a Troas para predicar el evangelio de Cristo, y se me abrió una puerta en el

Señor, 13 no tuve reposo en mi espíritu al no encontrar a Tito, mi hermano; despidiéndome,

pues, de ellos, salí para Macedonia.

Triunfantes en Cristo

14 Pero gracias a Dios, que en Cristo siempre nos lleva en triunfo, y que por medio de nosotros

manifiesta en todo lugar la fragancia de su conocimiento. 15 Porque fragante aroma de Cristo

somos para Dios entre los que se salvan y entre los que se pierden; 16 para unos, olor de

muerte para muerte, y para otros, olor de vida para vida. Y para estas cosas ¿quién está

capacitado? 17 Pues no somos como muchos, que comercian con la palabra de Dios, sino que

con sinceridad, como de parte de Dios y delante de Dios hablamos en Cristo.

1Ich dachte aber solches bei mir, daß ich nicht abermal in Traurigkeit zu euch käme. 2Denn so

ich euch traurig mache, wer ist, der mich fröhlich mache, ohne der da von mir betrübet

wird? 3Und dasselbige habe ich euch geschrieben, daß ich nicht, wenn ich käme, traurig sein

müßte, über welche ich mich billig sollte freuen, sintemal ich mich des zu euch allen versehe,

daß meine Freude euer aller Freude sei. 4Denn ich schrieb euch in großer Trübsal und Angst des

Herzens mit viel Tränen, nicht daß ihr solltet betrübet werden, sondern auf, daß ihr die Liebe

erkennetet, welche ich habe sonderlich zu euch.

5So aber jemand eine Betrübnis hat angerichtet, der hat nicht mich betrübet, ohne zum Teil,

auf daß ich nicht euch alle beschwere. 6Es ist aber genug, daß derselbige von vielen also

gestraft ist. 7daß ihr nun hinfort ihm desto mehr vergebet und tröstet, auf daß er nicht in allzu

große Traurigkeit versinke. 8Darum ermahne ich euch, daß ihr die Liebe an ihm beweiset.9Denn

darum habe ich euch auch geschrieben, daß ich erkennete, ob ihr rechtschaffen seid, gehorsam

zu sein in allen Stücken. 10Welchem aber ihr etwas vergebet, dem vergebe ich auch. Denn auch

ich, so ich etwas vergebe jemandem, das vergebe ich um euretwillen an Christi Statt, 11auf daß

wir nicht übervorteilt werden vom Satan; denn uns ist nicht unbewußt, was er im Sinn hat.

12Da ich aber gen Troas kam, zu predigen das Evangelium Christi, und mir eine Tür aufgetan

war in dem HERRN, 13hatte ich keine Ruhe in meinem Geist, da ich Titus, meinen Bruder, nicht

fand, sondern ich machte meinen Abschied mit ihnen und fuhr aus nach Mazedonien.

14Aber Gott sei gedankt, der uns allezeit Sieg gibt in Christo und offenbaret den Geruch seiner

Erkenntnis durch uns an allen Orten. 15Denn wir sind Gott ein guter Geruch Christi, beide, unter

denen, die selig werden, und unter denen, die verloren werden: 16diesen ein Geruch des Todes

zum Tode, jenen aber ein Geruch des Lebens zum Leben. Und wer ist hiezu tüchtig?17Denn wir

sind nicht wie etliche viele, die das Wort Gottes verfälschen, sondern als aus Lauterkeit und als

aus Gott, vor Gott reden wir in Christo.

2 Corinthians 2 ►New Living Translation

1So I decided that I would not bring you grief with another painful visit. 2For if I cause you grief,

who will make me glad? Certainly not someone I have grieved. 3That is why I wrote to you as I

did, so that when I do come, I won’t be grieved by the very ones who ought to give me the

greatest joy. Surely you all know that my joy comes from your being joyful. 4I wrote that letter

in great anguish, with a troubled heart and many tears. I didn’t want to grieve you, but I wanted

to let you know how much love I have for you.

Forgiveness for the Sinner

5I am not overstating it when I say that the man who caused all the trouble hurt all of you more

than he hurt me. 6Most of you opposed him, and that was punishment enough. 7Now,

however, it is time to forgive and comfort him. Otherwise he may be overcome by

discouragement. 8So I urge you now to reaffirm your love for him.

9I wrote to you as I did to test you and see if you would fully comply with my instructions.

10When you forgive this man, I forgive him, too. And when I forgive whatever needs to be

forgiven, I do so with Christ’s authority for your benefit, 11so that Satan will not outsmart us.

For we are familiar with his evil schemes.

12When I came to the city of Troas to preach the Good News of Christ, the Lord opened a door

of opportunity for me. 13But I had no peace of mind because my dear brother Titus hadn’t yet

arrived with a report from you. So I said good-bye and went on to Macedonia to find him.

Ministers of the New Covenant

14But thank God! He has made us his captives and continues to lead us along in Christ’s

triumphal procession. Now he uses us to spread the knowledge of Christ everywhere, like a

sweet perfume. 15Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God. But this fragrance is

perceived differently by those who are being saved and by those who are perishing. 16To those

who are perishing, we are a dreadful smell of death and doom. But to those who are being

saved, we are a life-giving perfume. And who is adequate for such a task as this?

17You see, we are not like the many huckstersa who preach for personal profit. We preach the

word of God with sincerity and with Christ’s authority, knowing that God is watching us.

Ministros del nuevo pacto

1 ¿Comenzamos otra vez a recomendarnos a nosotros mismos? ¿O acaso necesitamos, como

algunos, cartas de recomendación para vosotros o de parte de vosotros?2 Vosotros sois nuestra

carta, escrita en nuestros corazones, conocida y leída por todos los hombres, 3 siendo

manifiesto que sois carta de Cristo redactada por nosotros, no escrita con tinta, sino con el

Espíritu del Dios vivo; no en tablas de piedra, sino en tablas de corazones humanos. 4 Y esta

confianza tenemos hacia Dios por medio de Cristo: 5 no que seamos suficientes en nosotros

mismos para pensar que cosa alguna procede de nosotros, sino que nuestra suficiencia es de

Dios, 6 el cual también nos hizo suficientes como ministros de un nuevo pacto, no de la letra,

sino del Espíritu; porque la letra mata, pero el Espíritu da vida. 7 Y si el ministerio de muerte

grabado con letras en piedras fue con gloria, de tal manera que los hijos de Israel no podían

fijar la vista en el rostro de Moisés por causa de la gloria de su rostro, que se

desvanecía, 8 ¿cómo no será aún con más gloria el ministerio del Espíritu?9 Porque si el

ministerio de condenación tiene gloria, mucho más abunda en gloria el ministerio de

justicia. 10 Pues en verdad, lo que tenía gloria, en este caso no tiene gloria por razón de la

gloria que lo sobrepasa. 11 Porque si lo que se desvanece fue con gloria, mucho más es con

gloria lo que permanece.

Transformados de gloria en gloria

12 Teniendo, por tanto, tal esperanza, hablamos con mucha franqueza, 13 y no somos como

Moisés, que ponía un velo sobre su rostro para que los hijos de Israel no fijaran su vista en el fin

de aquello que había de desvanecerse. 14 Pero el entendimiento de ellos se endureció; porque

hasta el día de hoy, en la lectura del antiguo pacto el mismo velo permanece sin alzarse,

pues sólo en Cristo es quitado. 15 Y hasta el día de hoy, cada vez que se lee a Moisés, un velo

está puesto sobre sus corazones; 16 pero cuando alguno se vuelve al Señor, el velo es

quitado. 17 Ahora bien, el Señor es el Espíritu; y donde está el Espíritu del

Señor, hay libertad. 18 Pero nosotros todos, con el rostro descubierto, contemplando como en

un espejo la gloria del Señor, estamos siendo transformados en la misma imagen de gloria en

gloria, como por el Señor, el Espíritu.

der erkannt und gelesen wird von allen Menschen, 3die ihr offenbar worden seid, daß ihr ein

Brief Christi seid, durch unser Predigtamt zubereitet und durch uns geschrieben, nicht mit Tinte,

sondern mit dem Geist des lebendigen Gottes, nicht in steinerne Tafeln, sondern in fleischerne

Tafeln des Herzens.

4Ein solch Vertrauen aber haben wir durch Christum zu Gott. 5Nicht daß wir tüchtig sind von

uns selber, etwas zu denken als von uns selber, sondern daß wir tüchtig sind, ist von

Gott,6welcher auch uns tüchtig gemacht hat, das Amt zu führen des Neuen Testaments, nicht

des Buchstabens, sondern des Geistes. Denn der Buchstabe tötet, aber der Geist macht

lebendig.

7So aber das Amt, das durch die Buchstaben tötet und in die Steine ist gebildet, Klarheit hatte,

also daß die Kinder Israel nicht konnten ansehen das Angesicht Mose's um der Klarheit willen

seines Angesichtes, die doch aufhöret, 8wie sollte nicht viel mehr das Amt, das den Geist gibt,

Klarheit haben? 9Denn so das Amt, das die Verdammnis prediget, Klarheit hat, viel mehr hat

das Amt, das die Gerechtigkeit prediget, überschwengliche Klarheit. 10Denn auch jenes Teil, das

verkläret war, ist nicht für Klarheit zu achten gegen diese überschwengliche Klarheit. 11Denn so

das Klarheit hatte, das da aufhöret, viel mehr wird das Klarheit haben, das da bleibet.

12Dieweil wir nun solche Hoffnung haben, brauchen wir große Freudigkeit 13und tun nicht wie

Mose, der die Decke vor sein Angesicht hing, daß die Kinder Israel nicht ansehen konnten das

Ende des, der aufhöret. 14Sondern ihre Sinne sind verstockt; denn bis auf den heutigen Tag

bleibt dieselbige Decke unaufgedeckt über dem Alten Testament, wenn sie es lesen, welche in

Christo aufhöret. 15Aber bis auf den heutigen Tag, wenn Mose gelesen wird, hängt die Decke

vor ihrem Herzen. 16Wenn es aber sich bekehrete zu dem HERRN, so würde die Decke

abgetan. 17Denn der HERR ist der Geist. Wo aber der Geist des HERRN ist, da ist

Freiheit. 18Nun aber spiegelt sich in uns allen des HERRN Klarheit mit aufgedecktem

Angesichte; und wir werden verkläret in dasselbige Bild von einer Klarheit zu der andern als

vom Geist des HERRN.

2 Corinthians 3 ► New Living Translation

1Are we beginning to praise ourselves again? Are we like others, who need to bring you letters

of recommendation, or who ask you to write such letters on their behalf? Surely not! 2The only

letter of recommendation we need is you yourselves. Your lives are a letter written in oura

hearts; everyone can read it and recognize our good work among you. 3Clearly, you are a letter

from Christ showing the result of our ministry among you. This “letter” is written not with pen

and ink, but with the Spirit of the living God. It is carved not on tablets of stone, but on human

hearts.

4We are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ. 5It is not that we

think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God. 6He has

enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant. This is a covenant not of written laws, but of

the Spirit. The old written covenant ends in death; but under the new covenant, the Spirit gives

life.

The Glory of the New Covenant

7The old way,b with laws etched in stone, led to death, though it began with such glory that the

people of Israel could not bear to look at Moses’ face. For his face shone with the glory of God,

even though the brightness was already fading away.8Shouldn’t we expect far greater glory

under the new way, now that the Holy Spirit is giving life? 9If the old way, which brings

condemnation, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new way, which makes us right

with God! 10In fact, that first glory was not glorious at all compared with the overwhelming

glory of the new way. 11So if the old way, which has been replaced, was glorious, how much

more glorious is the new, which remains forever!

12Since this new way gives us such confidence, we can be very bold. 13We are not like Moses,

who put a veil over his face so the people of Israel would not see the glory, even though it was

destined to fade away. 14But the people’s minds were hardened, and to this day whenever the

old covenant is being read, the same veil covers their minds so they cannot understand the

truth. And this veil can be removed only by believing in Christ. 15Yes, even today when they

read Moses’ writings, their hearts are covered with that veil, and they do not understand.

16But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17For the Lord is the Spirit,

and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18So all of us who have had that veil

removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us

more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.

Ministros de Cristo

1 Por tanto, puesto que tenemos este ministerio, según hemos recibido misericordia, no

desfallecemos; 2 sino que hemos renunciado a lo oculto y vergonzoso, no andando con astucia,

ni adulterando la palabra de Dios, sino que, mediante la manifestación de la verdad, nos

recomendamos a la conciencia de todo hombre en la presencia de Dios. 3 Y si todavía nuestro

evangelio está velado, para los que se pierden está velado, 4 en los cuales el dios de este

mundo ha cegado el entendimiento de los incrédulos, para que no vean el resplandor del

evangelio de la gloria de Cristo, que es la imagen de Dios. 5 Porque no nos predicamos a

nosotros mismos, sino a Cristo Jesús como Señor, y a nosotros como siervos vuestros por amor

de Jesús. 6 Pues Dios, que dijo que de las tinieblas resplandeciera la luz, es el que ha

resplandecido en nuestros corazones, para iluminación del conocimiento de la gloria de Dios en

la faz de Cristo.

Lo temporal y lo eterno

pasajera nos produce un eterno peso de gloria que sobrepasa toda comparación, 18 al no poner

werden wir nicht müde 2sondern meiden auch heimliche Schande und gehen nicht mit

Schalkheit um, fälschen auch nicht Gottes Wort, sondern mit Offenbarung der Wahrheit und

beweisen uns wohl gegen aller Menschen Gewissen vor Gott. 3Ist nun unser Evangelium

verdeckt, so ist's in denen, die verloren werden, verdeckt, 4bei welchen der Gott dieser Welt

der Ungläubigen Sinn verblendet hat, daß sie nicht sehen das helle Licht des Evangeliums von

der Klarheit Christi, welcher ist das Ebenbild Gottes. 5Denn wir predigen nicht uns selbst,

sondern Jesum Christ, daß er sei der HERR, wir aber eure Knechte um Jesu willen. 6Denn Gott,

der da hieß das Licht aus der Finsternis hervorleuchten, der hat einen hellen Schein in unsere

Herzen gegeben, daß (durch uns) entstünde die Erleuchtung von der Erkenntnis der Klarheit

Gottes in dem Angesichte Jesu Christi.

7Wir haben aber solchen Schatz in irdischen Gefäßen, auf daß die überschwengliche Kraft sei

Gottes und nicht von uns. 8Wir haben allenthalben Trübsal, aber wir ängsten uns nicht; uns ist

bange, aber wir verzagen nicht; 9wir leiden Verfolgung, aber wir werden nicht verlassen; wir

werden unterdrückt, aber wir kommen nicht um. 10Und tragen um allezeit das Sterben des

HERRN Jesu an unserm Leibe, auf daß auch das Leben des HERRN Jesu an unserm Leibe

offenbar werde. 11Denn wir, die wir leben, werden immerdar in den Tod gegeben um Jesu

willen, auf daß auch das Leben Jesu offenbar werde an unserm sterblichen Fleische. 12Darum

so ist nun der Tod mächtig in uns, aber das Leben in euch.

13Dieweil wir aber denselbigen Geist des Glaubens haben (nachdem geschrieben stehet: Ich

glaube, darum rede ich), so glauben wir auch, darum so reden wir auch 14und wissen, daß der,

so den HERRN Jesum hat auferweckt, wird uns auch auferwecken durch Jesum und wird uns

darstellen samt euch. 15Denn es geschiehet alles um euretwillen, auf daß die überschwengliche

Gnade durch vieler Danksagen Gott reichlich preise.

16Darum werden wir nicht müde, sondern ob unser äußerlicher Mensch verweset, so wird

doch der innerliche von Tag zu Tag erneuert. 17Denn unsere Trübsal, die zeitlich und leicht ist,

schaffet eine ewige und über alle Maßen wichtige HERRLIchkeit 18uns, die wir nicht sehen auf

das Sichtbare, sondern auf das Unsichtbare. Denn was sichtbar ist, das ist zeitlich; was aber

unsichtbar ist, das ist ewig.

Treasure in Fragile Clay Jars

1Therefore, since God in his mercy has given us this new way,a we never give up. 2We reject all shameful deeds and underhanded methods. We don’t try to trick anyone or distort the word of God. We tell the truth before God, and all who are honest know this.

3If the Good News we preach is hidden behind a veil, it is hidden only from people who are perishing. 4Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.

5You see, we don’t go around preaching about ourselves. We preach that Jesus Christ is Lord, and we ourselves are your servants for Jesus’ sake. 6For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ.

7We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure.b This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.

8We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. 9We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. 10Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies.

11Yes, we live under constant danger of death because we serve Jesus, so that the life of Jesus will be evident in our dying bodies. 12So we live in the face of death, but this has resulted in eternal life for you.

13But we continue to preach because we have the same kind of faith the psalmist had when he said, “I believed in God, so I spoke.”c 14We know that God, who raised the Lord Jesus,d will also raise us with Jesus and present us to himself together with you. 15All of this is for your benefit. And as God’s grace reaches more and more people, there will be great thanksgiving, and God will receive more and more glory.

16That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits aree being renewed every day. 17For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! 18So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

Dios un edificio, una casa no hecha por manos, eterna en los cielos. 2 Pues, en verdad, en

esta morada gemimos, anhelando ser vestidos con nuestra habitación celestial; 3 y una vez

vestidos, no seremos hallados desnudos. 4 Porque asimismo, los que estamos en esta tienda,

gemimos agobiados, pues no queremos ser desvestidos, sino vestidos, para que lo mortal sea

absorbido por la vida. 5 Y el que nos preparó para esto mismo es Dios, quien nos dio el Espíritu

como garantía. 6 Por tanto, animados siempre y sabiendo que mientras habitamos en el

cuerpo, estamos ausentes del Señor 7 (porque por fe andamos, no por vista);8 pero cobramos

ánimo y preferimos más bien estar ausentes del cuerpo y habitar con el Señor. 9 Por eso, ya sea

presentes o ausentes, ambicionamos serle agradables. 10 Porque todos nosotros debemos

comparecer ante el tribunal de Cristo, para que cada uno sea recompensado por sus hechos

estando en el cuerpo, de acuerdo con lo que hizo, sea bueno o sea malo.

La nueva criatura

11 Por tanto, conociendo el temor del Señor, persuadimos a los hombres, pero a Dios somos

manifiestos, y espero que también seamos manifiestos en vuestras conciencias. 12 No nos

recomendamos otra vez a vosotros, sino que os damos oportunidad de estar orgullosos de

nosotros, para que tengáis respuesta para los que se jactan en las apariencias y no en el

corazón. 13 Porque si estamos locos, es para Dios; y si estamos cuerdos, es para

vosotros. 14 Pues el amor de Cristo nos apremia, habiendo llegado a esta conclusión: que uno

murió por todos, por consiguiente, todos murieron; 15 y por todos murió, para que los que

viven, ya no vivan para sí, sino para aquel que murió y resucitó por ellos. 16 De manera que

nosotros de ahora en adelante ya no conocemos a nadie según la carne; aunque hemos

El ministerio de la reconciliación

18 Y todo esto procede de Dios, quien nos reconcilió consigo mismo por medio de Cristo, y nos

dio el ministerio de la reconciliación; 19 a saber, que Dios estaba en Cristo reconciliando al

mundo consigo mismo, no tomando en cuenta a los hombres sus transgresiones, y nos ha

encomendado a nosotros la palabra de la reconciliación.

haben, von Gott erbauet, ein Haus, nicht mit Händen gemacht, das ewig ist, im Himmel. 2Und

über demselbigen sehnen wir uns auch nach unserer Behausung, die vom Himmel ist, und uns

verlanget, daß wir damit überkleidet werden, 3So doch, wo wir bekleidet und nicht bloß

erfunden werden. 4Denn dieweil wir in der Hütte sind, sehnen wir uns und sind beschweret,

sintemal wir wollten lieber nicht entkleidet, sondern überkleidet werden, auf daß das Sterbliche

würde verschlungen von dem Leben. 5Der uns aber zu demselbigen bereitet, das ist Gott, der

6Wir sind aber getrost allezeit und wissen, daß, dieweil wir im Leibe wohnen, so wallen wir dem

HERRN. 7Denn wir wandeln im Glauben und nicht im Schauen. 8Wir sind aber getrost und

haben vielmehr Lust, außer dem Leibe zu wallen und daheim zu sein bei dem HERRN. 9Darum

fleißigen wir uns auch, wir sind daheim oder wallen, daß wir ihm wohlgefallen.10Denn wir

müssen alle offenbar werden vor dem Richterstuhl Christi, auf daß ein jeglicher empfange,

nachdem er gehandelt hat bei Leibesleben, es sei gut oder böse.

11Dieweil wir denn wissen, daß der HERR zu fürchten ist, fahren wir schön mit den Leuten; aber

Gott sind wir offenbar. Ich hoffe aber, daß wir auch in eurem Gewissen offenbar sind.12Daß wir

uns nicht abermal loben, sondern euch eine Ursache geben, zu rühmen von uns, auf daß ihr

habet zu rühmen wider die, so sich nach dem Ansehen rühmen und nicht nach dem

Herzen. 13Denn tun wir zu viel, so tun wir's Gott; sind wir mäßig, so sind wir euch

mäßig. 14Denn die Liebe Christi dringet uns also, sintemal wir halten, daß, so einer für alle

gestorben ist, so sind sie alle gestorben. 15Und er ist darum für sie alle gestorben, auf daß die,

so da leben, hinfort nicht ihnen selbst leben, sondern dem, der für sie gestorben und

auferstanden ist.

16Darum von nun an kennen wir niemand nach dem Fleisch; und ob wir auch Christum gekannt

haben nach dem Fleisch, so kennen wir ihn doch jetzt nicht mehr. 17Darum, ist jemand in

Christo, so ist er eine neue Kreatur. Das Alte ist vergangen; siehe, es ist alles neu

worden. 18Aber das alles von Gott, der uns mit ihm selber versöhnet hat durch Jesum Christum

und das Amt gegeben, das die Versöhnung prediget. 19Denn Gott war in Christo und

versöhnete die Welt mit ihm selber und rechnete ihnen ihre Sünden nicht zu und hat unter uns

aufgerichtet das Wort von der Versöhnung.

20So sind wir nun Botschafter an Christi Statt; denn Gott vermahnet durch uns. So bitten wir

nun an Christi Statt: Lasset euch versöhnen mit Gott! 21Denn er hat den, der von keiner Sünde

wußte, für uns zur Sünde gemacht, auf daß wir würden in ihm die Gerechtigkeit, die vor Gott

gilt.

New Bodies

1For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands. 2We grow weary in our present bodies, and we long to put on our heavenly bodies like new clothing. 3For we will put on heavenly bodies; we will not be spirits without bodies.a 4While we live in these earthly bodies, we groan and sigh, but it’s not that we want to die and get rid of these bodies that clothe us. Rather, we want to put on our new bodies so that these dying bodies will be swallowed up by life. 5God himself has prepared us for this, and as a guarantee he has given us his Holy Spirit.

6So we are always confident, even though we know that as long as we live in these bodies we are not at home with the Lord. 7For we live by believing and not by seeing. 8Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these earthly bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord. 9So whether we are here in this body or away from this body, our goal is to please him. 10For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body.

We Are God’s Ambassadors

11Because we understand our fearful responsibility to the Lord, we work hard to persuade others. God knows we are sincere, and I hope you know this, too. 12Are we commending ourselves to you again? No, we are giving you a reason to be proud of us,b so you can answer those who brag about having a spectacular ministry rather than having a sincere heart. 13If it seems we are crazy, it is to bring glory to God. And if we are in our right minds, it is for your benefit. 14Either way, Christ’s love controls us.c Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life.d 15He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.

16So we have stopped evaluating others from a human point of view. At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view. How differently we know him now! 17This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

18And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. 19For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. 20So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” 21For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin,e so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

1 Y como colaboradores con El , también os exhortamos a no recibir la gracia de Dios en

He aquí, ahora es EL TIEMPO PROPICIO; he aquí, ahora es EL DIA DE SALVACION. 3 No

dando nosotros en nada motivo de tropiezo, para que el ministerio no sea desacreditado, 4 sino

que en todo nos recomendamos a nosotros mismos como ministros de Dios, en mucha

tumultos, en trabajos, en desvelos, en ayunos, 6 en pureza, en conocimiento, en paciencia, en

bondad, en el Espíritu Santo, en amor sincero, 7 en la palabra de verdad, en el poder de Dios;

por armas de justicia para la derecha y para la izquierda; 8 en honra y en deshonra, en mala

fama y en buena fama; como impostores, pero veraces; 9 como desconocidos, pero bien

11O ihr Korinther, unser Mund hat sich zu euch aufgetan; unser Herz ist

getrost. 12Unserthalben dürft ihr euch nicht ängsten. Daß ihr euch aber ängstet, das tut ihr aus

herzlicher Meinung. 13Ich rede mit euch als mit meinen Kindern, daß ihr euch auch also gegen

mich stellet und seiet auch getrost.

14Ziehet nicht am fremden Joch mit den Ungläubigen! Denn was hat die Gerechtigkeit für

Genieß mit der Ungerechtigkeit? Was hat das Licht für Gemeinschaft mit der Finsternis? 15Wie

stimmt Christus mit Belial? Oder was für ein Teil hat der Gläubige mit dem Ungläubigen?

16Was hat der Tempel Gottes für Gleichheit mit den Götzen? Ihr aber seid der Tempel des

lebendigen Gottes, wie denn Gott spricht: Ich will in ihnen wohnen und in ihnen wandeln und

will ihr Gott sein, und sie sollen mein Volk sein.

17Darum gehet aus von ihnen und sondert euch ab, spricht der HERR, und rühret kein Unreines

an, so will ich euch annehmen.

1As God’s partners,a we beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God’s kindness and then

ignore it. 2For God says,

“At just the right time, I heard you.

On the day of salvation, I helped you.”b

Indeed, the “right time” is now. Today is the day of salvation.

Paul’s Hardships

3We live in such a way that no one will stumble because of us, and no one will find fault with

our ministry. 4In everything we do, we show that we are true ministers of God. We patiently

endure troubles and hardships and calamities of every kind. 5We have been beaten, been put

in prison, faced angry mobs, worked to exhaustion, endured sleepless nights, and gone without

food. 6We prove ourselves by our purity, our understanding, our patience, our kindness, by the

Holy Spirit within us,c and by our sincere love. 7We faithfully preach the truth. God’s power is

working in us. We use the weapons of righteousness in the right hand for attack and the left

hand for defense. 8We serve God whether people honor us or despise us, whether they slander

us or praise us. We are honest, but they call us impostors. 9We are ignored, even though we

are well known. We live close to death, but we are still alive. We have been beaten, but we

have not been killed. 10Our hearts ache, but we always have joy. We are poor, but we give

spiritual riches to others. We own nothing, and yet we have everything.

11Oh, dear Corinthian friends! We have spoken honestly with you, and our hearts are open to

you. 12There is no lack of love on our part, but you have withheld your love from us. 13I am

asking you to respond as if you were my own children. Open your hearts to us!

The Temple of the Living God

14Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with

wickedness? How can light live with darkness? 15What harmony can there be between Christ

and the devild? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever? 16And what union can

there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God said:

“I will live in them

and walk among them.

I will be their God,

and they will be my people.e

17Therefore, come out from among unbelievers,

and separate yourselves from them, says the LORD.

Don’t touch their filthy things,

2Fasset uns! Wir haben niemand Leid getan; wir haben niemand verletzt; wir haben niemand

übervorteilet. 3Nicht sage ich solches, euch zu verdammen; denn ich habe droben zuvor gesagt,

daß ihr in unserm Herzen seid, mitzusterben und mitzuleben. 4Ich rede mit großer Freudigkeit

zu euch; ich rühme viel von euch; ich bin erfüllet mit Trost; ich bin überschwenglich in Freuden

in aller unserer Trübsal.

5Denn da wir nach Mazedonien kamen, hatte unser Fleisch keine Ruhe, sondern allenthalben

waren wir in Trübsal: auswendig Streit, inwendig Furcht. 6Aber Gott, der die Geringen tröstet,

der tröstete uns durch die Ankunft des Titus. 7Nicht allein aber durch seine Ankunft, sondern

auch durch den Trost, damit er getröstet war an euch, und verkündigte uns euer Verlangen,

euer Weinen, euren Eifer um mich, also daß ich mich noch mehr freuete. 8Denn daß ich euch

durch den Brief habe traurig gemacht, reuet mich nicht. Und ob's mich reuete, so ich aber sehe,

daß der Brief vielleicht eine Weile euch betrübt hat, 9so freue ich mich doch nun, nicht darüber,

daß ihr seid betrübt worden, sondern daß ihr seid betrübt worden zur Reue. Denn ihr seid

göttlich betrübt worden, daß ihr von uns ja keinen Schaden irgend worinnen nehmet. 10Denn

die göttliche Traurigkeit wirket zur Seligkeit eine Reue, die niemand gereuet; die Traurigkeit

aber der Welt wirket den Tod. 11Siehe, dasselbige, daß ihr göttlich seid betrübt worden,

welchen Fleiß hat es in euch gewirket, dazu Verantwortung, Zorn, Furcht, Verlangen, Eifer,

Rache! Ihr habt euch beweiset in allen Stücken, daß ihr rein seid an der Tat. 12Darum, ob ich

euch geschrieben habe, so ist's doch nicht geschehen um deswillen, der beleidiget hat, auch

nicht um deswillen, der beleidiget ist, sondern um deswillen, daß euer Fleiß gegen uns offenbar

würde bei euch vor Gott. 13Derhalben sind wir getröstet worden, daß ihr getröstet seid.

Überschwenglicher aber haben wir uns noch mehr gefreuet über die Freude des Titus; denn

sein Geist ist erquicket an euch allen. 14Denn was ich vor ihm von euch gerühmet habe, bin ich

nicht zuschanden worden; sondern gleichwie alles wahr ist, was ich mit euch geredet habe, also

ist auch unser Rühmen vor Titus wahr worden. 15Und er ist überaus herzlich wohl an euch,

wenn er gedenket an euer aller Gehorsam, wie ihr ihn mit Furcht und Zittern habt

aufgenommen. 16Ich freue mich, daß ich mich zu euch alles versehen darf.

1Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that

can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God.

2Please open your hearts to us. We have not done wrong to anyone, nor led anyone astray, nor

taken advantage of anyone.3I’m not saying this to condemn you. I said before that you are in

our hearts, and we live or die together with you. 4I have the highest confidence in you, and I

take great pride in you. You have greatly encouraged me and made me happy despite all our

troubles.

5When we arrived in Macedonia, there was no rest for us. We faced conflict from every

direction, with battles on the outside and fear on the inside. 6But God, who encourages those

who are discouraged, encouraged us by the arrival of Titus. 7His presence was a joy, but so was

the news he brought of the encouragement he received from you. When he told us how much

you long to see me, and how sorry you are for what happened, and how loyal you are to me, I

was filled with joy!

8I am not sorry that I sent that severe letter to you, though I was sorry at first, for I know it was

painful to you for a little while.9Now I am glad I sent it, not because it hurt you, but because the

pain caused you to repent and change your ways. It was the kind of sorrow God wants his

people to have, so you were not harmed by us in any way. 10For the kind of sorrow God wants

us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind

of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death.

11Just see what this godly sorrow produced in you! Such earnestness, such concern to clear

yourselves, such indignation, such alarm, such longing to see me, such zeal, and such a

readiness to punish wrong. You showed that you have done everything necessary to make

things right. 12My purpose, then, was not to write about who did the wrong or who was

wronged. I wrote to you so that in the sight of God you could see for yourselves how loyal you

are to us. 13We have been greatly encouraged by this.

In addition to our own encouragement, we were especially delighted to see how happy Titus

was about the way all of you welcomed him and set his minda at ease. 14I had told him how

proud I was of you—and you didn’t disappoint me. I have always told you the truth, and now

my boasting to Titus has also proved true! 15Now he cares for you more than ever when he

remembers the way all of you obeyed him and welcomed him with such fear and deep respect.

16I am very happy now because I have complete confidence in you.

Generosidad de los macedonios

1 Ahora, hermanos, os damos a conocer la gracia de Dios que ha sido dada en las iglesias de

Macedonia; 2 pues en medio de una gran prueba de aflicción, abundó su gozo, y su profunda

pobreza sobreabundó en la riqueza de su liberalidad. 3 Porque yo testifico que según sus

posibilidades, y aun más allá de sus posibilidades, dieron de su propia voluntad,4 suplicándonos

con muchos ruegos el privilegio de participar en el sostenimiento de los santos; 5 y esto no

como lo habíamos esperado, sino que primeramente se dieron a sí mismos al Señor, y luego a

nosotros por la voluntad de Dios. 6 En consecuencia, rogamos a Tito que como él ya había

comenzado antes, así también llevara a cabo en vosotros esta obra de gracia. 7 Mas así como

vosotros abundáis en todo: en fe, en palabra, en conocimiento, en toda solicitud, y en el amor

que hemos inspirado en vosotros, ved que también abundéis en esta obra de gracia. 8 No

digo esto como un mandamiento, sino para probar, por la solicitud de otros, también la

voluntad para desearlo, así también la haya para llevarlo a cabo según lo que

tengáis. 12 Porque si hay buena voluntad, se acepta según lo que se tiene, no según lo que no

se tiene. 13 Esto no es para holgura de otros y para aflicción vuestra, sino para que

haya igualdad; 14 en el momento actual vuestra abundancia suple la necesidad de ellos, para

que también la abundancia de ellos supla vuestra necesidad, de modo que haya

administrada por nosotros para la gloria del Señor mismo, y para manifestar nuestra buena

voluntad; 20 teniendo cuidado de que nadie nos desacredite en esta generosa ofrenda

administrada por nosotros; 21 pues nos preocupamos por lo que es honrado, no sólo ante los

ojos del Señor, sino también ante los ojos de los hombres. 22 Y con ellos hemos enviado a

nuestro hermano, de quien hemos comprobado con frecuencia que fue diligente en muchas

cosas, pero que ahora es mucho más diligente debido a la gran confianza que tiene en

vosotros. 23 En cuanto a Tito, es mi compañero y colaborador entre vosotros; en cuanto a

nuestros hermanos, son mensajeros de las iglesias y gloria de Cristo. 24 Por tanto, mostradles

abiertamente ante las iglesias la prueba de vuestro amor, y de nuestra razón para jactarnos

aufnähmen die Wohltat und Gemeinschaft der Handreichung, die da geschieht den

danach uns durch den Willen Gottes, 6daß wir mußten Titus ermahnen, auf daß er, wie er zuvor

7Aber gleichwie ihr in allen Stücken reich seid, im Glauben und im Wort und in der Erkenntnis

und in allerlei Fleiß und in eurer Liebe zu uns, also schaffet, daß ihr auch in dieser Wohltat reich

seid. 8Nicht sage ich, daß ich etwas gebiete, sondern dieweil andere so fleißig sind, versuche ich

auch eure Liebe, ob sie rechter Art sei. 9Denn ihr wisset die Gnade unsers HERRN Jesu Christi,

daß, ob er wohl reich ist, ward er doch arm um euretwillen, auf daß ihr durch seine Armut reich

würdet. 10Und mein Wohlmeinen hierinnen gebe ich. Denn solches ist euch nützlich, die ihr

angefangen habt vor dem Jahre her, nicht allein das Tun, sondern auch das Wollen. 11Nun aber

vollbringet auch das Tun, auf daß, gleichwie da ist ein geneigt Gemüt zu wollen, so sei auch da

ein geneigt Gemüt zu tun von dem, was ihr habt. 12Denn so einer willig ist, so ist er angenehm,

nachdem er hat, nicht nachdem er nicht hat. 13Nicht geschieht das der Meinung, daß die

andern Ruhe haben und ihr Trübsal, sondern daß es gleich sei. 14So diene euer Überfluß ihrem

Mangel diese (teure) Zeit lang, auf daß auch ihr Überschwang hernach diene eurem Mangel,

und geschehe, was gleich ist. 15Wie geschrieben stehet: Der viel sammelte, hatte nicht

Überfluß, und der wenig sammelte, hatte nicht Mangel.

16Gott aber sei Dank, der solchen Fleiß für euch gegeben hat in das Herz des Titus! 17Denn er

nahm zwar die Ermahnung an; aber dieweil er so sehr fleißig war, ist er von selber zu euch

gereiset. 18Wir haben aber einen Bruder mit ihm gesandt; der das Lob hat am Evangelium

durch alle Gemeinden; 19nicht allein aber das, sondern er ist auch verordnet von den

Gemeinden zum Gefährten unserer Fahrt in dieser Wohltat, welche durch uns ausgerichtet wird

dem HERRN zu Ehren und (zum Preis) eures guten Willens. 20Und verhüten das, daß uns nicht

jemand übel nachreden möge solcher reichen Steuer halben, die durch uns ausgerichtet

wird. 21und sehen darauf, daß es redlich zugehe, nicht allein vor dem HERRN, sondern auch vor

den Menschen. 22Auch haben wir mit ihnen gesandt unsern Bruder, den wir oft gespüret haben

in vielen Stücken, daß er fleißig sei, nun aber viel fleißiger. 23Und wir sind großer Zuversicht zu

euch, es sei des Titus halben, welcher mein Geselle und Gehilfe unter euch ist, oder unserer

A Call to Generous Giving

1Now I want you to know, dear brothers and sisters,a what God in his kindness has done

through the churches in Macedonia. 2They are being tested by many troubles, and they are

very poor. But they are also filled with abundant joy, which has overflowed in rich generosity.

3For I can testify that they gave not only what they could afford, but far more. And they did it of

their own free will. 4They begged us again and again for the privilege of sharing in the gift for

the believersb in Jerusalem. 5They even did more than we had hoped, for their first action was

to give themselves to the Lord and to us, just as God wanted them to do.

6So we have urged Titus, who encouraged your giving in the first place, to return to you and

encourage you to finish this ministry of giving. 7Since you excel in so many ways—in your faith,

your gifted speakers, your knowledge, your enthusiasm, and your love from usc—I want you to

excel also in this gracious act of giving.

8I am not commanding you to do this. But I am testing how genuine your love is by comparing it

with the eagerness of the other churches.

9You know the generous grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though he was rich, yet for your sakes

he became poor, so that by his poverty he could make you rich.

10Here is my advice: It would be good for you to finish what you started a year ago. Last year

you were the first who wanted to give, and you were the first to begin doing it. 11Now you

should finish what you started. Let the eagerness you showed in the beginning be matched now

by your giving. Give in proportion to what you have. 12Whatever you give is acceptable if you

give it eagerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don’t have. 13Of course, I

don’t mean your giving should make life easy for others and hard for yourselves. I only mean

that there should be some equality. 14Right now you have plenty and can help those who are in

need. Later, they will have plenty and can share with you when you need it. In this way, things

will be equal. 15As the Scriptures say,

“Those who gathered a lot had nothing left over,

and those who gathered only a little had enough.”d

Titus and His Companions

16But thank God! He has given Titus the same enthusiasm for you that I have. 17Titus

welcomed our request that he visit you again. In fact, he himself was very eager to go and see

you. 18We are also sending another brother with Titus. All the churches praise him as a

preacher of the Good News. 19He was appointed by the churches to accompany us as we take

the offering to Jerusaleme—a service that glorifies the Lord and shows our eagerness to help.

20We are traveling together to guard against any criticism for the way we are handling this

generous gift. 21We are careful to be honorable before the Lord, but we also want everyone

else to see that we are honorable.

22We are also sending with them another of our brothers who has proven himself many times

and has shown on many occasions how eager he is. He is now even more enthusiastic because

of his great confidence in you. 23If anyone asks about Titus, say that he is my partner who

works with me to help you. And the brothers with him have been sent by the churches,f and

they bring honor to Christ. 24So show them your love, and prove to all the churches that our

boasting about you is justified.

Llamamiento a la liberalidad

1 Porque me es por demás escribiros acerca de este servicio a los santos; 2 pues conozco

vuestra buena disposición, de la que me glorío por vosotros ante los macedonios, es decir, que

Acaya ha estado preparada desde el año pasado; y vuestro celo ha estimulado a la mayoría de

ellos. 3 Pero he enviado a los hermanos para que nuestra jactancia acerca de vosotros no sea

hecha vana en este caso, a fin de que, como decía, estéis preparados; 4 no sea que algunos

macedonios vayan conmigo y os encuentren desprevenidos, y nosotros (por no decir vosotros)

seamos avergonzados por esta confianza. 5 Así que creí necesario exhortar a los hermanos a

que se adelantaran en ir a vosotros, y prepararan de antemano vuestra generosa ofrenda, ya

prometida, para que la misma estuviera lista como ofrenda generosa, y no como por codicia.

Recompensa de la liberalidad

6 Pero esto digo: El que siembra escasamente, escasamente también segará; y el que siembra

abundantemente, abundantemente también segará. 7 Que cada uno dé como propuso en su

corazón, no de mala gana ni por obligación, porque Dios ama al dador alegre. 8 Y Dios puede

hacer que toda gracia abunde para vosotros, a fin de que teniendo siempre todo lo suficiente

en todas las cosas, abundéis para toda buena obra; 9 como está escrito:

EL ESPARCIO, DIO A LOS POBRES;

SU JUSTICIA PERMANECE PARA SIEMPRE.

10 Y el que suministra semilla al sembrador y pan para su alimento, suplirá y multiplicará

vuestra sementera y aumentará la siega de vuestra justicia; 11 seréis enriquecidos en todo para

toda liberalidad, la cual por medio de nosotros produce acción de gracias a Dios. 12 Porque la

ministración de este servicio no sólo suple con plenitud lo que falta a los santos, sino que

también sobreabunda a través de muchas acciones de gracias a Dios. 13 Por la prueba dada por

esta ministración, glorificarán a Dios por vuestra obediencia a vuestra confesión del evangelio

de Cristo, y por la liberalidad de vuestra contribución para ellos y para todos; 14 mientras que

también ellos, mediante la oración a vuestro favor, demuestran su anhelo por vosotros debido

a la sobreabundante gracia de Dios en vosotros. 15 ¡Gracias a Dios por su don inefable!

schreiben. 2Denn ich weiß euren guten Willen, davon ich rühme bei denen aus Mazedonien

(und sage): Achaja ist vor dem Jahr bereit gewesen. Und euer Exempel hat viele gereizet. 3Ich

habe aber diese Brüder darum gesandt, daß nicht unser Ruhm von euch zunichte würde in dem

Stücke, und daß ihr bereit seid, gleichwie ich von euch gesagt habe, 4auf daß nicht, so die aus

Mazedonien mit mir kämen und euch unbereitet fänden, wir (will nicht sagen ihr) zuschanden

würden mit solchem Rühmen. 5Ich habe es aber für nötig angesehen, die Brüder zu ermahnen,

daß sie voranzögen zu euch, zu verfertigen diesen zuvor verheißenen Segen, daß er bereitet sei,

also daß es sei ein Segen und nicht ein Geiz.

6Ich meine aber das: Wer da kärglich säet, der wird auch kärglich ernten; und wer da säet im

Segen, der wird auch ernten im Segen. 7Ein jeglicher nach seiner Willkür, nicht mit Unwillen

oder aus Zwang; denn einen fröhlichen Geber hat Gott lieb. 8Gott aber kann machen, daß

allerlei Gnade unter euch reichlich sei, daß ihr in allen Dingen volle Genüge habet und reich seid

zu allerlei guten Werken,

9wie geschrieben stehet: Er hat ausgestreuet und gegeben den Armen; seine Gerechtigkeit

bleibet in Ewigkeit.

10Der aber Samen reichet beim Säemann, der wird je auch das Brot reichen zur Speise und wird

vermehren euren Samen und wachsen lassen das Gewächs eurer Gerechtigkeit, 11daß ihr reich

seid in allen Dingen mit aller Einfältigkeit, welche wirket durch uns Danksagung Gott. 12Denn

die Handreichung dieser Steuer erfüllet nicht allein den Mangel der Heiligen, sondern ist auch

überschwenglich darinnen, daß viele Gott danken für diesen unsern treuen Dienst 13und

preisen Gott über eurem untertänigen Bekenntnis des Evangeliums Christi und über eurer

einfältigen Steuer an sie und an alle 14und über ihrem Gebet für euch, welche verlanget nach

euch, um der überschwenglichen Gnade Gottes willen in euch. 15Gott aber sei Dank für seine

unaussprechliche Gabe!

The Collection for Christians in Jerusalem

1I really don’t need to write to you about this ministry of giving for the believers in Jerusalem.a 2For I know how eager you are to help, and I have been boasting to the churches in Macedonia that you in Greeceb were ready to send an offering a year ago. In fact, it was your enthusiasm that stirred up many of the Macedonian believers to begin giving.

3But I am sending these brothers to be sure you really are ready, as I have been telling them, and that your money is all collected. I don’t want to be wrong in my boasting about you. 4We would be embarrassed—not to mention your own embarrassment—if some Macedonian believers came with me and found that you weren’t ready after all I had told them! 5So I thought I should send these brothers ahead of me to make sure the gift you promised is ready. But I want it to be a willing gift, not one given grudgingly.

6Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. 7You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”c 8And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. 9As the Scriptures say,

“They share freely and give generously to the poor.

Their good deeds will be remembered forever.”d

10For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generositye in you.

11Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God. 12So two good things will result from this ministry of giving—the needs of the believers in Jerusalemf will be met, and they will joyfully express their thanks to God.

13As a result of your ministry, they will give glory to God. For your generosity to them and to all believers will prove that you are obedient to the Good News of Christ. 14And they will pray for you with deep affection because of the overflowing grace God has given to you. 15Thank God for this giftg too wonderful for words!

1 Y yo mismo, Pablo, os ruego por la mansedumbre y la benignidad de Cristo, yo, que soy

humilde cuando estoy delante de vosotros, pero osado para con vosotros

cuando estoyausente, 2 ruego, pues, que cuando esté presente, no tenga que ser osado con la

confianza con que me propongo proceder resueltamente contra algunos que nos consideran

como si anduviéramos según la carne. 3 Pues aunque andamos en la carne, no luchamos según

la carne; 4 porque las armas de nuestra contienda no son carnales, sino poderosas en Dios para

la destrucción de fortalezas; 5 destruyendo especulaciones y todo razonamiento altivo que se

levanta contra el conocimiento de Dios, y poniendo todo pensamiento en cautiverio a la

obediencia de Cristo, 6 y estando preparados para castigar toda desobediencia cuando vuestra

obediencia sea completa. 7 Vosotros veis las cosas según la apariencia exterior. Si alguno tiene

confianza en sí mismo de que es de Cristo, considere esto dentro de sí otra vez: que así como él

es de Cristo, también lo somos nosotros. 8 Pues aunque yo me gloríe más todavía respecto de

nuestra autoridad, que el Señor nos dio para edificación y no para vuestra destrucción, no me

manera de hablar menospreciable. 11 Esto tenga en cuenta tal persona: que lo que somos en

presentes. 12 Porque no nos atrevemos a contarnos ni a compararnos con algunos que se

alaban a sí mismos; pero ellos, midiéndose a sí mismos y comparándose consigo mismos,

carecen de entendimiento. 13 Mas nosotros no nos gloriaremos desmedidamente, sino dentro

de la medida de la esfera que Dios nos señaló como límite para llegar también hasta

vosotros. 14 Pues no nos excedemos a nosotros mismos, como si no os hubiéramos alcanzado,

ya que nosotros fuimos los primeros en llegar hasta vosotros con el evangelio de Cristo; 15 no

gloriándonos desmedidamente, esto es, en los trabajos de otros, sino teniendo la esperanza de

que conforme vuestra fe crezca, nosotros seremos, dentro de nuestra esfera, engrandecidos

aún más por vosotros, 16 para anunciar el evangelio aun a las regiones que están más allá de

gegenwärtig unter euch gering bin, im Abwesen aber bin ich türstig gegen euch. 2Ich bitte aber,

daß mir nicht not sei, gegenwärtig türstig zu handeln und der Kühnheit zu brauchen, die man

mir zumisset, gegen etliche, die uns schätzen, als wandelten wir fleischlicherweise. 3Denn ob

wir wohl im Fleisch wandeln, so streiten wir doch nicht fleischlicherweise. 4Denn die Waffen

unserer Ritterschaft sind nicht fleischlich, sondern mächtig vor Gott, zu zerstören die

Befestungen, 5damit wir zerstören die Anschläge und alle Höhe, die sich erhebet wider die

Erkenntnis Gottes und nehmen gefangen alle Vernunft unter den Gehorsam Christi 6und sind

bereit, zu rächen allen Ungehorsam, wenn euer Gehorsam erfüllet ist.

7Richtet ihr nach dem Ansehen? Verläßt sich jemand darauf, daß er Christo angehöre, der

denke solches, auch wieder um bei ihm, daß, gleichwie er Christo angehöret, also gehören wir

auch Christo an. 8Und so ich auch etwas weiter, mich rühmete von unserer Gewalt, welche uns

der HERR gegeben hat, euch zu bessern und nicht zu verderben, wollte ich nicht zuschanden

werden. 9(Das sage ich aber,) daß ihr nicht euch dünken lasset, als hätte ich euch wollen

schrecken mit Briefen. 10Denn die Briefe (sprechen, sie) sind schwer und stark; aber die

Gegenwärtigkeit des Leibes ist schwach und die Rede verächtlich. 11Wer ein solcher ist, der

denke, daß wie wir sind mit Worten in den Briefen im Abwesen, so dürfen wir auch wohl sein

mit der Tat gegenwärtig.

12Denn wir dürfen uns nicht unter die rechnen oder zählen, so sich selbst loben; aber dieweil

sie sich bei sich selbst messen und halten allein von sich selbst, verstehen sie nichts. 13Wir aber

rühmen uns nicht über das Ziel, sondern nur nach dem Ziel der Regel, damit uns Gott

abgemessen hat das Ziel, zu gelangen auch bis an euch. 14Denn wir fahren nicht zu weit, als

wären wir nicht gelanget bis zu euch; denn wir sind ja auch bis zu euch kommen mit dem

Evangelium Christi. 15Und rühmen uns nicht über das Ziel in fremder Arbeit und haben

Hoffnung, wenn nun euer Glaube in euch gewachsen, daß wir unserer Regel nach wollen weiter

kommen 16und das Evangelium auch predigen denen, die jenseit euch wohnen, und uns nicht

rühmen in dem, was mit fremder Regel bereitet ist. 17Wer sich aber rühmet, der rühme sich

des HERRN. 18Denn darum ist einer nicht tüchtig, daß er sich selbst lobet, sondern daß ihn der

HERR lobet.

Paul Defends His Authority

1Now I, Paul, appeal to you with the gentleness and kindness of Christ—though I realize you think I am timid in person and bold only when I write from far away. 2Well, I am begging you now so that when I come I won’t have to be bold with those who think we act from human motives.

3We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. 4aWe use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. 5We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ. 6And after you have become fully obedient, we will punish everyone who remains disobedient.

7Look at the obvious facts.b Those who say they belong to Christ must recognize that we belong to Christ as much as they do. 8I may seem to be boasting too much about the authority given to us by the Lord. But our authority builds you up; it doesn’t tear you down. So I will not be ashamed of using my authority.

9I’m not trying to frighten you by my letters. 10For some say, “Paul’s letters are demanding and forceful, but in person he is weak, and his speeches are worthless!” 11Those people should realize that our actions when we arrive in person will be as forceful as what we say in our letters from far away.

12Oh, don’t worry; we wouldn’t dare say that we are as wonderful as these other men who tell you how important they are! But they are only comparing themselves with each other, using themselves as the standard of measurement. How ignorant!

13We will not boast about things done outside our area of authority. We will boast only about what has happened within the boundaries of the work God has given us, which includes our working with you. 14We are not reaching beyond these boundaries when we claim authority over you, as if we had never visited you. For we were the first to travel all the way to Corinth with the Good News of Christ.

15Nor do we boast and claim credit for the work someone else has done. Instead, we hope that your faith will grow so that the boundaries of our work among you will be extended. 16Then we will be able to go and preach the Good News in other places far beyond you, where no one else is working. Then there will be no question of our boasting about work done in someone else’s territory. 17As the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the LORD.”c

18When people commend themselves, it doesn’t count for much. The important thing is for the Lord to commend them.

Ursache suchen, daß sie rühmen möchten, sie seien wie wir. 13Denn solche falsche Apostel und

trügliche Arbeiter verstellen sich zu Christi Aposteln. 14Und das ist auch kein Wunder; denn er

selbst, der Satan, verstellet sich zum Engel des Lichts. 15Darum ist es nicht ein Großes, ob sich

auch seine Diener verstellen als Prediger der Gerechtigkeit; welcher Ende sein wird nach ihren

Werken.

16Ich sage abermal, daß nicht jemand wähne, ich sei töricht; wo aber nicht, so nehmet mich an

als einen Törichten, daß ich mich auch ein wenig rühme. 17Was ich jetzt rede, das rede ich nicht

als im HERRN, sondern als in der Torheit, dieweil wir in das Rühmen kommen sind. 18Sintemal

viele sich rühmen nach dem Fleisch, will ich mich auch rühmen. 19Denn ihr vertraget gerne die

Narren, dieweil ihr klug seid. 20Ihr vertraget, so euch jemand zu Knechten macht, so euch

jemand schindet, so euch jemand nimmt, so jemand euch trotzet, so euch jemand in das

Angesicht streicht. 21Das sage ich nach der Unehre, als wären wir schwach worden. Worauf

Paul and the False Apostles

1I hope you will put up with a little more of my foolishness. Please bear with me. 2For I am

jealous for you with the jealousy of God himself. I promised you as a pure bridea to one

husband—Christ. 3But I fear that somehow your pure and undivided devotion to Christ will be

corrupted, just as Eve was deceived by the cunning ways of the serpent. 4You happily put up

with whatever anyone tells you, even if they preach a different Jesus than the one we preach,

or a different kind of Spirit than the one you received, or a different kind of gospel than the one

you believed.

5But I don’t consider myself inferior in any way to these “super apostles” who teach such

things. 6I may be unskilled as a speaker, but I’m not lacking in knowledge. We have made this

clear to you in every possible way.

7Was I wrong when I humbled myself and honored you by preaching God’s Good News to you

without expecting anything in return? 8I “robbed” other churches by accepting their

contributions so I could serve you at no cost. 9And when I was with you and didn’t have enough

to live on, I did not become a financial burden to anyone. For the brothers who came from

Macedonia brought me all that I needed. I have never been a burden to you, and I never will be.

10As surely as the truth of Christ is in me, no one in all of Greeceb will ever stop me from

boasting about this. 11Why? Because I don’t love you? God knows that I do.

12But I will continue doing what I have always done. This will undercut those who are looking

for an opportunity to boast that their work is just like ours. 13These people are false apostles.

They are deceitful workers who disguise themselves as apostles of Christ. 14But I am not

surprised! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15So it is no wonder that his

servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. In the end they will get the

Paul’s Many Trials

16Again I say, don’t think that I am a fool to talk like this. But even if you do, listen to me, as

you would to a foolish person, while I also boast a little. 17Such boasting is not from the Lord,

but I am acting like a fool. 18And since others boast about their human achievements, I will,

too. 19After all, you think you are so wise, but you enjoy putting up with fools! 20You put up

with it when someone enslaves you, takes everything you have, takes advantage of you, takes

control of everything, and slaps you in the face. 21I’m ashamed to say that we’ve been too

“weak” to do that!

But whatever they dare to boast about—I’m talking like a fool again—I dare to boast about it,

too. 22Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they descendants of

Abraham? So am I. 23Are they servants of Christ? I know I sound like a madman, but I have

served him far more! I have worked harder, been put in prison more often, been whipped times

without number, and faced death again and again. 24Five different times the Jewish leaders

gave me thirty-nine lashes. 25Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three

times I was shipwrecked. Once I spent a whole night and a day adrift at sea. 26I have traveled

on many long journeys. I have faced danger from rivers and from robbers. I have faced danger

from my own people, the Jews, as well as from the Gentiles. I have faced danger in the cities, in

the deserts, and on the seas. And I have faced danger from men who claim to be believers but

are not.c 27I have worked hard and long, enduring many sleepless nights. I have been hungry

and thirsty and have often gone without food. I have shivered in the cold, without enough

clothing to keep me warm.

28Then, besides all this, I have the daily burden of my concern for all the churches. 29Who is

weak without my feeling that weakness? Who is led astray, and I do not burn with anger?

30If I must boast, I would rather boast about the things that show how weak I am. 31God, the

Father of our Lord Jesus, who is worthy of eternal praise, knows I am not lying. 32When I was in

Damascus, the governor under King Aretas kept guards at the city gates to catch me. 33I had to

be lowered in a basket through a window in the city wall to escape from him.

1 El gloriarse es necesario, aunque no es provechoso; pasaré entonces a las visiones y

revelaciones del Señor. 2 Conozco a un hombre en Cristo, que hace catorce años (no sé si en el

cuerpo, no sé si fuera del cuerpo, Dios lo sabe) el tal fue arrebatado hasta el tercer cielo. 3 Y

conozco a tal hombre (si en el cuerpo o fuera del cuerpo no lo sé, Dios lo sabe) 4 que fue

arrebatado al paraíso, y escuchó palabras inefables que al hombre no se le permite

expresar. 5 De tal hombre sí me gloriaré; pero en cuanto a mí mismo, no me gloriaré sino

en misdebilidades. 6 Porque si quisiera gloriarme, no sería insensato, pues diría la verdad; mas

me abstengo de hacerlo para que nadie piense de mí más de lo que ve en mí, u oye de mí. 7 Y

dada la extraordinaria grandeza de las revelaciones, por esta razón, para impedir que me

enalteciera, me fue dada una espina en la carne, un mensajero de Satanás que me abofetee,

para que no me enaltezca. 8 Acerca de esto, tres veces he rogado al Señor para que lo quitara

de mí. 9 Y El me ha dicho: Te basta mi gracia, pues mi poder se perfecciona en la debilidad. Por

tanto, muy gustosamente me gloriaré más bien en mis debilidades, para que el poder de Cristo

more en mí. 10 Por eso me complazco en las debilidades, en insultos, en privaciones, en

persecuciones y en angustias por amor a Cristo; porque cuando soy débil, entonces soy fuerte.

11 Me he vuelto insensato; vosotros me obligasteis a ello. Pues yo debiera haber sido

encomiado por vosotros, porque en ningún sentido fui inferior a los más eminentes apóstoles,

aunque nada soy. 12 Entre vosotros se operaron las señales de un verdadero apóstol, con toda

perseverancia, por medio de señales, prodigios, y milagros. 13 Pues ¿en qué fuisteis tratados

yo sea hallado por vosotros que no soy lo que deseáis; que quizá haya pleitos, celos, enojos,

rivalidades, difamaciones, chismes, arrogancia, desórdenes; 21 temo que cuando os visite de

nuevo, mi Dios me humille delante de vosotros, y yo tenga que llorar por muchos que han

pecado anteriormente y no se han arrepentido de la impureza, inmoralidad y sensualidad que

mir gesagt: Laß dir an meiner Gnade genügen; denn meine Kraft ist in den Schwachen mächtig.

Darum will ich mich am allerliebsten rühmen meiner Schwachheit, auf daß die Kraft Christi bei

mir wohne. 10Darum bin ich gutes Muts in Schwachheiten, in Schmachen, in Nöten, in

Verfolgungen, in Ängsten um Christi willen. Denn wenn ich schwach bin, so bin ich stark.

11Ich bin ein Narr worden über den Rühmen; dazu habt ihr mich gezwungen. Denn ich sollte

von euch gelobet werden, sintemal ich nichts weniger bin, denn die hohen Apostel sind;

wiewohl ich nichts bin. 12Denn es sind ja eines Apostels Zeichen unter euch geschehen mit aller

Geduld; mit Zeichen und mit Wundern und mit Taten. 13Welches ist's, darinnen ihr geringer

seid denn die andern Gemeinden, ohne daß ich selbst euch nicht habe beschweret? Vergebet

mir diese Sünde!

14Siehe, ich bin bereit, zum drittenmal zu euch zu kommen, und will euch nicht beschweren;

denn ich suche nicht das Eure, sondern euch. Denn es sollen nicht die Kinder den Eltern Schätze

sammeln, sondern die Eltern den Kindern. 15Ich will aber fast gerne darlegen und dargelegt

werden für eure Seelen; wiewohl ich euch fast sehr liebe und doch wenig geliebt werde. 16Aber

laß also sein, daß ich euch nicht habe beschweret, sondern dieweil ich tückisch war, habe ich

euch mit Hinterlist gefangen. 17Habe ich aber auch jemand übervorteilet durch deren etliche,

die ich zu euch gesandt habe? 18Ich habe Titus ermahnet und mit ihm gesandt einen Bruder.

Hat euch auch Titus übervorteilet? Haben wir nicht in einem Geist gewandelt? Sind wir nicht in

einerlei Fußtapfen gegangen?

19Lasset ihr euch abermal dünken, wir verantworten uns? Wir reden in Christo vor Gott; aber

das alles geschieht, meine Liebsten, euch zur Besserung. 20Denn ich fürchte, wenn ich komme,

daß ich euch nicht finde, wie ich will, und ihr mich auch nicht findet, wie ihr wollet: daß nicht

Hader, Neid, Zorn, Zank, Afterreden, Ohrenblasen, Aufblähen, Aufruhr da sei; 21daß ich nicht

abermal komme, und mich mein Gott demütige bei euch, und müsse Leid tragen über viele, die

zuvor gesündiget und nicht Buße getan haben für die Unreinigkeit und Hurerei und Unzucht, die

sie getrieben haben.

Paul’s Vision and His Thorn in the Flesh

1This boasting will do no good, but I must go on. I will reluctantly tell about visions and

revelations from the Lord. 2Ia was caught up to the third heaven fourteen years ago. Whether I

was in my body or out of my body, I don’t know—only God knows.3Yes, only God knows

whether I was in my body or outside my body. But I do know 4that I was caught upb to paradise

and heard things so astounding that they cannot be expressed in words, things no human is

allowed to tell.

5That experience is worth boasting about, but I’m not going to do it. I will boast only about my

weaknesses. 6If I wanted to boast, I would be no fool in doing so, because I would be telling the

truth. But I won’t do it, because I don’t want anyone to give me credit beyond what they can

see in my life or hear in my message, 7even though I have received such wonderful revelations

from God. So to keep me from becoming proud, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger

from Satan to torment me and keep me from becoming proud.

8Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. 9Each time he said, “My grace is all

you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses,

so that the power of Christ can work through me.10That’s why I take pleasure in my

weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For

when I am weak, then I am strong.

Paul’s Concern for the Corinthians

11You have made me act like a fool—boasting like this.c You ought to be writing

commendations for me, for I am not at all inferior to these “super apostles,” even though I am

nothing at all. 12When I was with you, I certainly gave you proof that I am an apostle. For I

patiently did many signs and wonders and miracles among you. 13The only thing I failed to do,

which I do in the other churches, was to become a financial burden to you. Please forgive me

for this wrong!

14Now I am coming to you for the third time, and I will not be a burden to you. I don’t want

what you have—I want you. After all, children don’t provide for their parents. Rather, parents

provide for their children. 15I will gladly spend myself and all I have for you, even though it

seems that the more I love you, the less you love me.

16Some of you admit I was not a burden to you. But others still think I was sneaky and took

advantage of you by trickery.17But how? Did any of the men I sent to you take advantage of

you? 18When I urged Titus to visit you and sent our other brother with him, did Titus take

advantage of you? No! For we have the same spirit and walk in each other’s steps, doing things

the same way.

19Perhaps you think we’re saying these things just to defend ourselves. No, we tell you this as

Christ’s servants, and with God as our witness. Everything we do, dear friends, is to strengthen

you. 20For I am afraid that when I come I won’t like what I find, and you won’t like my

response. I am afraid that I will find quarreling, jealousy, anger, selfishness, slander, gossip,

arrogance, and disorderly behavior. 21Yes, I am afraid that when I come again, God will humble

me in your presence. And I will be grieved because many of you have not given up your old sins.

You have not repented of your impurity, sexual immorality, and eagerness for lustful pleasure.

1 Esta es la tercera vez que voy a vosotros. POR EL TESTIMONIO DE DOS O TRES TESTIGOS SE

JUZGARAN TODOS LOS ASUNTOS. 2 Dije previamente, cuando estuve presente la segunda vez, y

aunque ahora estoy ausente, lo digo de antemano a los que pecaron anteriormente y también a

todos los demás, que si voy otra vez, no seré indulgente, 3 puesto que buscáis una prueba del

Cristo que habla en mí, el cual no es débil para con vosotros, sino poderoso en

vosotros. 4 Porque ciertamente El fue crucificado por debilidad, pero vive por el poder de Dios.

Así también nosotros somos débiles en El, sin embargo, viviremos con El por el poder de Dios

para con vosotros. 5 Poneos a prueba para ver si estáis en la fe; examinaos a vosotros mismos.

¿O no os reconocéis a vosotros mismos de que Jesucristo está en vosotros, a menos de que en

ist, sondern ist mächtig unter euch. 4Und ob er wohl gekreuziget ist in der Schwachheit, so

lebet er doch in der Kraft Gottes. Und ob wir auch schwach sind in ihm, so leben wir doch mit

ihm in der Kraft Gottes unter euch.

5Versuchet euch selbst, ob ihr im Glauben seid, prüfet euch selbst! Oder erkennet ihr euch

selbst nicht, daß Jesus Christus in euch ist? Es sei denn, daß ihr untüchtig seid. 6Ich hoffe aber,

ihr erkennet, daß wir nicht untüchtig sind. 7Ich bitte aber Gott, daß ihr nichts Übles tut, nicht

auf daß wir tüchtig gesehen werden, sondern auf daß ihr das Gute tut, und wir wie die

Untüchtigen seien. 8Denn wir können nichts wider die Wahrheit, sondern für die

Wahrheit. 9Wir freuen uns aber, wenn wir schwach sind, und ihr mächtig seid. Und dasselbige

wünschen wir auch nämlich eure Vollkommenheit. 10Derhalben ich auch solches abwesend

schreibe, auf daß ich nicht, wenn ich gegenwärtig bin, Schärfe brauchen müsse nach der Macht,

welche mir der HERR, zu bessern und nicht zu verderben, gegeben hat.

11Zuletzt, liebe Brüder, freuet euch, seid vollkommen, tröstet euch, habt einerlei Sinn, seid

friedsam, so wird Gott der Liebe und des Friedens mit euch sein. 12Grüßet euch untereinander

mit dem heiligen Kuß. 13Es grüßen euch alle Heiligen.

14Die Gnade unsers HERRN Jesu Christi und die Liebe Gottes und die Gemeinschaft des Heiligen

Geistes sei mit euch allen! Amen.

Paul’s Final Advice

1This is the third time I am coming to visit you (and as the Scriptures say, “The facts of every case must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses”a). 2I have already warned those who had been sinning when I was there on my second visit. Now I again warn them and all others, just as I did before, that next time I will not spare them.

3I will give you all the proof you want that Christ speaks through me. Christ is not weak when he deals with you; he is powerful among you. 4Although he was crucified in weakness, he now lives by the power of God. We, too, are weak, just as Christ was, but when we deal with you we will be alive with him and will have God’s power.

5Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine. Test yourselves. Surely you know that Jesus Christ is among youb; if not, you have failed the test of genuine faith. 6As you test yourselves, I hope you will recognize that we have not failed the test of apostolic authority.

7We pray to God that you will not do what is wrong by refusing our correction. I hope we won’t need to demonstrate our authority when we arrive. Do the right thing before we come—even if that makes it look like we have failed to demonstrate our authority. 8For we cannot oppose the truth, but must always stand for the truth. 9We are glad to seem weak if it helps show that you are actually strong. We pray that you will become mature.

10I am writing this to you before I come, hoping that I won’t need to deal severely with you when I do come. For I want to use the authority the Lord has given me to strengthen you, not to tear you down.

Paul’s Final Greetings

11Dear brothers and sisters,c I close my letter with these last words: Be joyful. Grow to maturity. Encourage each other. Live in harmony and peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you.

12Greet each other with Christian love.d 13All of God’s people here send you their greetings.

14eMay the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

pruvon de tio, ke parolas en mi Kristo, kiu rilate al vi ne estas malforta, sed energias en vi; 4ĉar li
