RI President's message

ROTARY SERVING HUMANITYRotary has been many things, to many people, in the last 111 years. Through Rotary, our members have found friends, community, and a sense of purpose; we've forged connecons, advanced our careers, and had incredible experiences we couldn't have had anywhere else. Every week, in more than 34,000 Clubs around the world, Rotarians come together to talk, laugh, and share ideas. But above all, we come together for one, overriding goal: service.

Service to humanity has been the cornerstone of Rotary since its earliest days, and has been its main purpose ever since. I believe that there is no beer path to meaningful service today than Rotary membership; and no organisaon beer placed to make a real and posive difference in our world. No other organisaon so effecvely brings together commied, capable professionals in a wide variety of fields, and enables them to achieve ambious goals. Through Rotary, we have the capacity, the network, and the knowledge to change the world: the only limits are the ones we place on ourselves.

Issue 01 July 04, 2016Volume 36

Today, our organisaon is at a crical point: a historic juncture that will determine, in so many ways, what comes next. Together, we have provided extraordinary service to our world; tomorrow, our world will depend on us to do even more. Now is the me to capitalise on our success: as we complete the eradicaon of polio, and catapult Rotary forward, with determinaon and enthusiasm, to be an even greater force for good in the world.

Of the many lessons polio eradicaon has taught us, one of the most important is also one of the simplest: that if we want to bring all of Rotary forward, we've all got to be moving in the same direcon. Connuity of leadership, at the Club, District, and RI level, is the only way we will flourish, and achieve our full potenal. It is not enough simply to bring in new members and form new Clubs: our goal is not more Rotarians, but more Rotarians who can achieve more good Rotary work, and will become the Rotary leaders of tomorrow.

Near the end of his life, reflecng on the path that brought him to Rotary, Paul Harris wrote: “Individual effort may be turned to individual needs, but combined effort should be dedicated to the service of mankind. The power of combined effort knows no limitaon.” He could hardly have imagined then that one day, more than 1.2 million Rotarians would be combining their efforts, and, through our Rotary Foundaon, their resources, to serve humanity together. And we can only imagine what great deeds Paul Harris would have expected of such a Rotary! It is our responsibility to achieve those deeds; as it is our privilege to carry forth the tradion of Rotary Serving Humanity.

Sincerely,John Germ

District Governor's message

Dear Rotarians of Rotary Bangalore Indiranagar,

Greengs and good wishes.th

2016-17, the 111 year of Rotary, is a very significant year. It is the centennial year of the Rotary Foundaon (TRF). The year is most likely to see the first-ever polio-free year in the world. It is a year where our Past President of Rotary Internaonal, Kalyan Banerjee will be heading the TRF during its centennial year as trustee chair.

R.I. President Rtn. John Germ has given us the theme 'Rotary serving Humanity' with emphasis on service projects, ethics in vocaon and teamwork.

Our District 3190 has been growing at an exponenal pace in the recent years, both in terms of membership and contribuon to TRF. We need to augment this growth by good membership retenon programs and impact-making service projects that help the needy. Our thrust areas will be literacy, T-E-A-C-H, WinS, paediatric heart surgeries and celebraon of TRF centennial.

Issue 01 July 04, 2016Volume 36

Indiranagar is the upmarket area of Bangalore, where large and presgious businesses and offices are located. Rotary Bangalore Indiranagar therefore has the advantage of access to huge resources and skilled hands to accomplish our goals. 2016-17, The Centennial year of The Rotary Foundaon, could well be an opportunity for creang more iconic service acvies. More hands to serve, more projects to help the needy, are what are required.

Dear President Rtn. Pradeep, please remember, you and your team will always be known as the TRF centennial year President/team and I wish you all the best to make 2016-17 a year that will leave a lasng impact on our society, as we connue the tradion of Rotary Serving Humanity.

Warm Regards

Peeyush Jain Signing OffJagadeesh and myself had a wonderful Rotary year. Myself as Club President and Jagadeesh as Club Secretary, we are truly thankful to everyone who stood by us, volunteered their precious me and resources. I can tell every member of Rotary Bangalore Indiranagar is commied to help this Club to become stronger year aer year.

Languages may fail and photographs fade but experiences never dim, they stand in our memories even aer decades, so we will just say that you are greatest blessing in our life. This is the expression of gratude to you, thank you! We are sincerely grateful to god for giving us such loving and caring friends. We achieved what was required to achieve which is due to your help.

When I think back over these twelve months, I see a bright kaleidoscope of images cascading before my eyes. The PETS at Sri Lanka along with RIP Rtn.K R Ravindran, DG Fl.Lt.Rtn.K P Nagesh, followed by inauguraon of Netradeep, several exisng projects and launch of new projects this year, and many RBI and District events. I am thankful to our Partners in Service who made this possible.

Issue 01 July 04, 2016Volume 36

Jagadeesh and I are extremely thankful to all the Board members who have executed the task with precision and dedicaon. We are indebted to you. I must thank all the Anns to have recommended external speakers and were also a big resource during the fellowship.

As this Rotary year ends, I am proud to think that I have been part of this great organisaon: one that makes the world not poorer, but richer, replaces despair with hope; raises up those whom fate has brought low; and is the gi to so many, while leaving each one of us to “Be a Gi to the World”.

So the era of 2015-16 ends today. New year begins with leadership of Rtn. Pradeep Visvanathan at the helm of affairs of Rotary Bangalore Indiranagar. We wish him and his team members an excellent year ahead.

Pradeep and the team, All the Best!

“Sweet and Sour”Doctor Voo (doo)

I must have lied something heavy that morning when I got a catch in my back. I could not bend and the pain was unbearable. We had an important meeng with a French delegaon. I took a pain killer before the meeng. Aer the meeng one of the delegates said, “Let me tell you what happened to me a couple of years back”.

“We had been on a sightseeing trip to Africa” he connued. “You have to drive long distances to visit the game reserves. I was worried since I was a chronic low back paent. Fortunately I survived all the drives vising the well-known parks including a visit to Masai Maara.”

“On the last day our guide asked us if we wanted to see a witch doctor. It was too tempng an offer to refuse. When we reached the place the 'doctor' was sing under a tree. He was dressed in a leopard skin, long feathers, painted face and two horns of a buffalo on either side of his head gear. Our guide spoke to him and asked us if we had any medical problems. I told him about my chronic low back pain. He called me over and made me stand with my back to him. He pulled my trousers down exposing my back. It was winter in Africa at that me and I was shivering. The guide told me to repeat what the doctor chanted loudly. It was all Mumbo jumbo to me but I repeated them fairly well. Soon I felt the doctor slapping something on my back with every chant. To my shock it was cow dung! It was sickening and I felt I should not have told him about my back pain. Aer a few slaps he stopped. Our guide told me that the 'doctor' was only driving away the spirits from my body. He started his channg again but this me the 'doctor' started sping on my back with every chant. I felt like running away from it all. It was nauseang. My only thought was to get back to the hotel and have a good bath.”

“You will not believe me if I tell you” he concluded. “I have not suffered from a back pain since then! “

RBI First Lady's note:

Hello and greengs on a brand new Rotary year.

A new year always ushers in a feeling of ancipaon and excitement, and it is no different this me too. A new team, with fresh goals, fresh targets, and even some fresh faces – but all bound together by the same level of commitment to serve. And that, I believe, is what keeps our Club so vibrant and vital.

I sll recall, many years ago, when we first joined Rotary, Indiranagar, the trepidaon with which we aended our first meeng, wondering what was in store for us. But all our anxiees were soon allayed. The abundant affecon and acceptance we received helped us forge and sustain some wonderful relaonships, and we are blessed to have so many fantasc friends in Rotary.

Issue 01 July 04, 2016Volume 36

I have been asked by many, whether I am prepared for my role as First Lady of RCBI – all I can say is, I really don't know what is expected of me. I guess, as the year goes by, it will become more clear. However, if it means comming more me and effort to Rotary, one is always more than ready, especially with the backing of our Club. As always, there is a great deal to look forward to this year too – projects, fund raisers, fellowships, picnic, and much more. The involvement of the whole Rotary family in our acvies, is one of the endearing and enduring tradions of our Club, leading to some truly amazing fellowships. This year too, I am hoping for the support of all the Annes and Annets, to make for an unforgeable experience.

Beginning with this issue, SEVA, our in-house magazine, will have a new column, “Anne's Corner”, a plaorm for our Anns to share anything which is interesng and of interest to others. It could be some novel views about our projects; a new service iniave; a story or poem penned by you or the Annes; a review of a book you enjoyed; any achievements you wish to highlight; a recipe you would like to contribute – there is absolutely no dearth of topics. So go ahead, put on your thinking caps, pen your thoughts and forward them to the SEVA editorial team. It will definitely amp-up the content.

Looking forward to many more marvelous moments this year too. Once again, wishing the RCBI family, and more specially, the leadership team a meaningful, memorable and fun-filled year ahead.

Joint Board Meeng:The Joint Board Meeng of the Incoming and Outgoing Board Members was held on Thursday 02 June 2016, at Diamond District, Club House at 7.00PM.It was well aended with all Board Members being present along with many PPs and Annes. Both President Peeyush and President Elect Pradeep Visvanathan ensured that the meeng was finished within the spulated me, aer all consideraons and acceptances required in a Joint Meeng.
