PARISH MISSION STATEMENT We are a Catholic faith community
who believes in God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit –
and who follows Christ’s teaching of love and service.
As a parish founded by immigrants, we recognize that we continue to be
a multi-ethnic parish. We welcome everyone
by ministering to their various needs and provide all with the opportunity
to grow intellectually in Christ. Through our sacramental life, we are empowered to build up
the Body of Christ and to become a more vibrant
and faith-filled community.

The Holy Father speaks…
His Message for Lent 2018 Once again, the Pasch of the
Lord draws near! In our preparation for Easter, God in his providence offers us each year the season of Lent as a “sacramental sign of our conversion”. Lent summons us, and enables us, to come back to the Lord wholeheartedly and in every aspect of our life. With this message, I would like again this year to help the entire Church experience this time of grace anew, with joy and in truth.

What can I do as a
Parishioner to promote vocations to the priesthood and
religious life?
Support parish functions. Your participation in parish functions is important. Not only will you benefit in terms of your own spiritual growth, you will be setting a fine example for your friends and neighbors. Having the parish as a focal point in your life can be an impetus for others to do the same. Such an atmosphere gives rise to church vocations.
IN OBSERVANCE OF PRESIDENTS’ DAY
THE RECTORY, FAITH FORMATION AND ST. JOSEPH CHAPEL OFFICES WILL BE CLOSED ON MONDAY,
FEBRUARY 19, 2018.

From the Pastor..... A Personal Note.
On Friday, February 23rd I will be having surgery for the full knee replacement on my right leg. As you may have witnessed, I have been having trouble walking and standing for a while. The surgery should remedy this. As is necessary, I will then have on-going physical therapy for some weeks after until I can walk properly again. Therefore, you may not be seeing me at Mass for a while. Every time you notice that I am missing, please say a prayer that I am obeying the instructions of the physical therapist! Msgr. Ronald Marino

Lenten Regulations 2018
ABSTINENCE—All the faithful who have reached 14 years of age are required to abstain totally from meat on Ash Wednesday and the Fridays of Lent. FASTING—All the faithful between the ages of 18 and 59 inclusive are bound to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. This practice involves limiting oneself to a single full meal and avoiding food between meals. Light sustenance may also be taken on two other occasions during the day. EASTER DUTY—After they have been initiated into the Most Holy Eucharist, all the faithful are bound by the obligation of receiving Holy Communion at least once a year. This precept must be fulfilled during the Easter season beginning with the First Sunday of Lent (Feb. 18) to the celebration of Pentecost (May 20). The following should also be noted: Music—The “Alleluia” is not sung or said from the beginning of Lent until the Easter Vigil. Musical instruments may be used during Lent and the Paschal Triduum to give necessary support to the singing. Decorations— The church should not be decorated with flowers during Lent. Holy Water—Holy Water is not removed from the fonts during the season of Lent. Holy Water is removed from all fonts immediately before the celebration of the Mass of the Lord’s Supper. They are refilled with water blessed at the Easter Vigil. Funeral Masses—Funeral Masses are not permitted during the Sacred Triduum. Funeral Rites during these days may make use of a Liturgy of the Word, concluding with the Rite of Farewell.
