Los métodos de enseñar la gramática: implícita versus explícita
Implícita
Ventajas– Es una verdadera adquisición– Los estudiantes están más involucrados– Es más contextualizado
Desventajas– Toma mucho tiempo– Los estudiantes se ponen frustrados– Es poco motivante
Los que apoyan el método implícito Chomsky: teoría de la Gramática Universal (no
necesitamos la gramática para aprender el primer idioma ni el segundo)
Krashen: lo que necesitamos es input, una explicación explícita de gramática no es necesaria
Van Patten: hay que procesar la gramática profundamente para establecer conexiones entre la gramática y el significado.
Explícita
Ventajas– Muy rápido– Más directo– Menos frustrante
Desventajas– Es descontextualizado– Los estudiantes logran aprendizaje pero no
adquisición
Los que apoyan el método explícito
Schmitt: hay que ser consciente de la existencia de las formas gramaticales para poder seguir adelante
Swain: hay que aprender la gramática y cómo usarla para poder llegar a un nivel avanzado
Piennemann: Teachability Hypothesis (el método explícito tendrá beneficios pero solo cuando el aprendiz esté listo)

Dado la situación en que enseño,
– ¿Cuál es el método más eficaz y útil para mis estudiantes?
– ¿Cuál es el método que mis estudiantes prefieren?
Metodología
Los participantes
Alumnos de dos clases de Español 102 en NAU
Edades entre 18 y 38 años Nivel de instrucción previo entre
ninguno y 3 años de high school De varias etnias incluso caucásico,
afro-americano, nativo-americano, asiático, latino y hispano
Los instrumentos
1 pretest midiendo su conocimiento previo de los mandatos formales – Parte 1: 8 ítems, tarea explícita– Parte 2: 8 ítems, tarea implícita
1 postest midiendo su conocimiento después de la instrucción– Igual formato que el pretest
Una encuesta midiendo sus preferencias acerca de los dos métodos de la enseñanza de la gramática
Procedimiento
Día 1– Se administró el pretest
Día 2– Los estudiantes vieron una lección sobre el uso de
los mandatos formales• Clase 1: implícita• Clase 2: explícita
– Los estudiantes llenaron la encuesta Día 3
– Se administró el postest
Las lecciones
Clase implícita– Actividad de receta (poner pasos en orden)– En parejas, escribir su propia receta– Leer la receta para la clase, adivinamos la
comida– Juego de roles (escribir varias mandatos
que una persona dijera a la otra persona)– Leer los mandatos, adivinamos la situación
La clase explícita
Introducir los mandatos por escribir en la pizarra cómo formarlos
Crear varios ejemplos juntos Juego de concurso: dividir la clase en 2
equipos, una persona de cada equipo va a la pizarra, les doy un mandato en inglés, la persona que lo puede escribir correctamente gana un punto
